My mother actually gifted me a Kindle recently. It's very convenient but doesn't change the books I've collected for the last 10 years or so. I don't buy books nearly as much as I used to, because I don't have a bookshelf anymore, I go to the library more often and I read on my e-reader. I've realized that at this age, without a permanent address, my books get lost easily. I lost some favourites when I moved from my first apartment and from lending books to people I never spoke to again. It sucked.

>i miss my tokyo apartment
We had very different experiences in Tokyo, then. I'm very, very glad to be free of my Tokyo apartment and into my over-sized monstrosity.

On that note, does anyone have any recommendations re: what I should do with a spare bedroom with ~15 ft ceilings? I have an entire room in my condo with nothing but my desk, so I need to do something with it. Bookshelves seem like a waste, as I don't have nearly the number of books I used to.

It's about 12'x12' with a 19 foot ceiling. No bed, this is a spare room. It's basically a square with a closet.

I'm thinking about just leaving it empty and calling it a day, as I'll likely use it as a workshop until I sell the condo a few years from now. Like my little /fa/ posting dungeon

If you've got everything you need in all the other rooms, and if you don't need a wardrobe room. Got a hobby(except for shitposting), painting? Got a guest room? Get a shelf and start reading books? Some people like movie/gaming rooms.

Wanna increase the value of the apartment/house? Make a children room(depends on how your apartment/house is, if it's family friendly etc). Build something à la picture-related?

I'm not quite sure what you have in mind.

>> No.9858230

I think I probably will end up going with the direction of a guest room, if only because people keep wanting to use my place while job hunting or just when bumming about. I don't mind anyway.

One decent set of windows smack dab in the middle of one wall. Other wall has two doors - one for an entrance, another for a small walk-in. It's like the white bread of room design.

Prior owner seemed to have used it for a kid's room, as I found crayon on the baseboard.

Thanks for walking me through it! I'll dick around and maybe post pictures depending on how badly I screw it up.

That's pretty big for a spare bedroom. Also jealous of your 19' ceilings. Why not make it a project room? Do you have any hobbies you nerd out on that you could use a room for?

Not particularly. Lots of my stuff for work is at my office or otherwise situated.

Speaking of space, I hilariously have huge storage rooms in the basement of the building that also remain empty and an additional parking spot. My response: parking diagonally and using the rooms to store a single paint can each. I'm the definition of dumbass excess.

About the same size, just a bigger bathroom and walk-in.

D.C. I rented a place for like $5k in the city, got tired of it and my neighbors (one dude would tool around in a Ferrari with his bored-ass girlfriend in the basement EVERY NIGHT), and bought a place for veritable pennies right across the river in Virginia. It needed some upgrades, of course (I installed a marble backsplash, refreshed the bathrooms, painted a lot, currently in the process of wiring in some Cat6, etc.) but I knew going in the size was going to be insane.

It's actually been a blast to upgrade the place, so it was worth the price of admission. I did, however, wreck a number of athletic outfits in the process of painting because I'm a dumbass.

>> No.9858321

Would be easier to just draw it yourself. Remember to consider which ways the door goes. Try not to place the bed too close to the window. If you don't wanna splash too much, just put in a

90 cm bed
nightstand(not really necessary)
120 cm desk
wardrobe
a carpet (if you really wanna bang da drums)

everything from IKEA of course.

True.

Do what I did:
1. Conference call BoA, Citi, etc. and make them bid against each other. Forward their GFEs to each other and drive them down. I got my rate down to sub-3%, which royally pissed off my lender but I got him to accept. Did this way before I even had a place. Note that this is a quick way to make the bank angry, so they won't help with ANYTHING after that.
2. Watch the listings like a hawk until everything you want comes up on the market
3. Offer immediately for the full asking price and make the seller agree next day
4. Swing in with asshole home inspectors and knock the price down
5. Move in ASAP
