New /fg/, new reviews
Busy lately so I'll make it quick

Tom Ford- Tobacco Vanille
Not anything that I expected at all, and not in a good way. This should be renamed to:
Tom Ford: Christmas Pinecone /w hint of Vanilla
I absolutely hated this. Fucking hated it. I hate Christmas pinecones/needles and I also hate peppermint. There was an absolutely minute amount of nice vanilla deep down but the ugly Pinecone surface never let me smell the good underneath and by the time I can it's gone. Again like YSL La Nuit, the hype is undeserved.

CB I Hate Perfume- Just breathe
It's nice, relaxing, and doesn't last long. Kinda hard to describe but it's a slightly citrusy green light scent. Very linear for the CB house, which is unusual. However I enjoyed wearing it and got a bunch of random complements for some reason.

What's left to review
CDG- Hinoki
Tom Ford- Plum Japonais
Le Labo- Poivre 23
Slumberhouse- Sova

Sorry to hear that. Packaging perfumes is so tricky. Travelling can be hard too. I once had an entire 100mL bottle of TF Black Orchid break inside my suitcase, saturating all of my clothes, shoes and the suitcase itself. I store books in the suitcase now and they all smell like Black Orchid too.

Oh man, that sounds like a bummer, but I guess the benefit is good smelling books eh? I remember my friend's CdG dropped off the counter when we were cleaning up a wound and even to this day the bathroom smells like that. Stuff can last forever sometimes.

The Bleu didn't smell nearly as pleasant though. It smells really bitter and sour since it just leaked everywhere and it was kinda hot outside. I sprayed some of the last on me though, and even though the top notes are gone, the middle notes are still there and smell nice.

The dangers of buying cologne on ebay I suppose. Gotta deal with possible fakers diluting it, and gotta deal with packaging issues.

Maybe it was the fruity openings of those scents. To some people, it can smell a bit like old, spoiling, rotting, or preserved fruit, the way a dirty fruit stand at the market smells on a hot day. The Chanel ones are definitely citrusy and I've read that Jimmy Choo Man opens with the melon and pineapple notes.

Maybe it's better if you choose something that opens differently. Though fruit notes are often at the top of more generic fragrances, you can definitely find a scent that suits you without having to succumb to something you don't like. In Dior Homme, for example, bergamot is the only citrus, and may remind you more of an Earl Grey tea than of a familiar fruit. The floral opening might suit you better. Those aren't the only options. If you're interested in a particular scent "memory", you might like some fragrances from CB I Hate Perfume, Demeter or the Margiela replica collection that I mentioned. Some of them, like Demeter's Dirt, aren't really all that interesting to wear but it does give you insight into the way scents are blended and what kinds of messages they convey. Reading reviews will help you understand how other people interpret them too

>> No.9850483

Yeah, pain in the butt really. I've never bought any Chanel before, but BdC really struck me and was pleasant.

But I Guess that's what happens when you buy off ebay and save 20-30 bucks, so oh well. For all I know, could have been diluted or something anyways, so perhaps it is for the best.

Sorry all the same. If it helps, if the seller is in the U.S., you can always bring a small claims court action. Just document shit like crazy and file a claim for breach of some UCC warranty (or just straight-up fraud). You can do it yourself, it's more or less free depending on where you are, and you can fuck up some eBay scammer's game.

And when they don't show up (they probably won't), you can go nuclear and put a lien on their house or something. The game gets fun.

>Versache Eau Fraiche
it almost smells like nothing in the weirdest way and that scares me. no longetivity, I haven't worn it but Versace Eros is still the one out of this and the next that I've found the most interesting. Which is funny because people say it is the worst of the 3 usually
>Versace Pour Homme
very "generic citrusy" if anything, almost too harsh. can't comment on projection, but it didn't really last long on me. Maybe ~4 hours and that's after a second application of sprays.
Consider D&G light blue instead, lighter, better drydown

>Issey Miyake Yuzu
I haven't had the chance to wear the usual Issey people buy, but i saw this while I was up in a bigger town so I sampled it since I can grab the normal one here.

At first, I was kinda like "meh" on it. But this is actually a pretty cool scent. It starts off very green, and it grew on me after 20 minutes. It then dries down to a very light citrus, and it was a really nice contrast from what I expected. Longetivity was only OKAY, maybe I didn't apply enough or something. Definitely worth a look though.

My favorites: Bleu De Chanel Parfum for being more than just strong sharp citrus. D&G Light Blue is also pretty nice, simply because it is light and pleasant.

Honorable mention: D&G Pour Homme. It is an honorable mention because it isn't clearly citrus (imo) but I fucking love this fragrance either way.

Okay, guy who got the broken Bleu De Chanel here. Guy said he was sorry and would send me a new one. So hopefully he packages it better.

Anyways, ALSO the guy looking at nonniche citrus fragrances here. I wanted to wait until the end of my samples to give a nice review, but I was so impressed by this one that I had to tell you. This is a great fragrance. As of this moment, Chanel has had some of my favorite fragrances.

What this lacks in longetivity it makes up for in scent character. It starts with this nice, citrusy opening, but it gets spicier as the day goes on, both figuratively and literally. The scent basically evolves on your skin to have this light spice, but doesn't overpower the whole fragrance. I HIGHLY recommend giving this one a try, simply because it is a very enjoyable ride. Longetivity again is poor, and it is pretty expensive for an EdT with this performance, so I might be on the hunt for a discounted version to add to my collection, but this is a GREAT fragrance regardless. Thanks for the rec, /fa/

>>9866646
BdC by far. To me, Versace Pour Homme was literally just "citrus" to the point I was just waiting for it to fade so I didn't have to smell it.
Make sure you try the EdP though, it is a lot richer. Also maybe try pic related, and if you want something super light, D&G Light Blue is pretty pleasant and safe tbh, but doesn't just punch you with citrus like the Versace.

>> No.9881205

the wrong reason to wear a fragrance. it should be an extension of one's personal aesthetic, whether or not it helps getting girls is irrelevant
>or for /fa/
even worse

>> No.9881233

>>9881205
I don't think that's entirely true.

Your number one reason to wear a fragrance should be because you enjoy it. Don't wear something you only kinda like or hate to impress other people. For example, I got compliments on CdG play Red when I wore it, but I just couldn't get past how sour it came off to me.

But, there isn't anything wrong with keeping some fragrances around because other people like them. Day-to-day fragrances, date fragrances, that kinda stuff. Obviously it should suit you, but don't just shut yourself off from the rest of society. Toilet water could suit you and you could like it, but it doesn't necessarily imply you should wear it.

Just don't go full Paco 1million mode or something like that and thing cologne is gonna up your pussy game. It will compliment it, but that is about it.

IE I keep Bleu De Chanel because I like it but other people really like it, but then I also wear D&G Pour Homme and Rocky Mountain Wood solely because I like it and I love how they smell.

It's still worth it to have something to put on if I go out right after work and don't have time to change. Longevity has decreased for all of them, unfortunately. GIT seems to have evaporated completely, the little that was in there. Michael Kors and Aventus have held up the best.

Only the Tauer of those three is woody, even though Rose 31 is considered a woody, I didn't find it as such. However, L'Air is not really a Spring/Summer scent if you want something useful right now (assuming you are in the Northern Hemisphere, or the Tropics, too I guess)

I personally think Carnal Flower is the best of those three, but I'm biased toward non-rosy florals (but even if I wasn't biased against roses, I'd still think Rose 31 is woefully overrated)
