I think your problem is that you're thinking of prep as a lifestyle. This is /fa/. People might talk about wanting to live like a 1%er in New England, but since most people here can't do that, these threads are about how to LOOK preppy, not BE preppy. I don't think anyone here on an anonymous imageboard has any pretensions to being what they're not.

And anyway, even though I might be an old money fuccboi that's been wearing bespoke suits since he was 15, most people can't afford $600 shirts like I (and possibly you, but I don't know you) can. if your from the north your idea of a fraternity is probably correct. I hear that recently though a lot of old row frats at smaller schools are way more casual and moving away from their traditions. in the SEC even bottom tier fraternities are very traditional, hyper conservative, with a touch of outdoorsmanship. Up north you've got party guido 'frats' and secretive ivy league wankery for trust fund kids.
In the south everything's more on a middle ground.

Most kids at my private HS wear J. Crew and VV everything or don't care at all and wear old jeans and graphic tees, most everyone is 1% or close to it. I try to dress in a prep inspired style, but I also wear a lot of modern "designer" stuff as well. I've looked at Brooks Brothers, Barba, Corneliani, Eton, Kamakura etc but none of them have anything interesting (at max there is one or two nice shirts per store, but I don't want to buy just one piece per store), I'm especially looking for a white oxford shirt but it's proving difficult to find one. The best white button-down oxford shirt I've managed to find is the Brooks Brothers Black Fleece collection oxford, but I don't really want to spend over 200$ on a single shirt.

Here in the south if you aren’t rocking Polo or Vines you might as well get out. Here in my top tier fraternity, in the south, we are usually found wearing the classics that have been established in our old money families for years. I was born (on our plantation) wearing an oxford Polo button down, a navy with gold buttons Brooks Brothers blazer, a pair of J. Crew khakis and a Vineyard Vines seersucker bow tie. I grew up wearing Costa Del Mars (in the 580 glass lens, of course) and Southern Tide croakies to complement my southern yachting/fishing lifestyle, and you bet that there were at least three Yeti coolers in the 60′ yacht at all times. In the summer, when it gets hot in the south, I will put on some Chubbies (Americas or bust) or Patagonia stand up shorts to match my Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirt, Columbia PFG or one of the various frocket t’s that I have collected from sorority slams or have bought from Vineyard Vines (P.S. if your t-shirt doesn’t have at least one anchor on it, throw it out). If I am day drinking at the house, listening to Africa or Wagon Wheel, I will sometimes throw on a Rowdy Gentlemen “Reagan-Bush ’84″ or “Back to Back World War Champs” tank with either my Sperrys, Chaco sandals, or Cole Haan drivers (aka frat cleats). If I am going raging, I will pretty much wear what I said above, but with a FaF pair of Ray Ban Clubmasters as they are super cheap ($80) and I can throw them away when I am done raging. On game day you better respect that I am wearing a Polo or Southern Proper baseball hat (worn backwards) in my school’s colors, to match my Vineyard Vines colorful pants, and because of course I am in the SEC, the pants and hat will be worn with a Polo white oxford button down, a Brooks Brothers navy blazer, and a Vineyard Vines seersucker bow tie.

Make sure to pick up a few pairs of Rowdy Gentlemen/Southern _____ swim trunks, and get them hemmed (by your private tailor, of course) to a FaF 4″ inseam. Yeah, it essentially boils down to that if you aren’t wearing Polo and VV you are NF and not cool. On another note, the biggest frat stars (including me) in my top tier fraternity (in the south) can usually put down around a case (24 brews) in an hour. While I don’t usually just go out and drink a full case, I do spend the night shotgunning the occasional Natty and drinking a handle of Makers until I blackout. If you want to get a bid to a top tier, you should my advice not with a grain of salt, but with line of coke as I am a veteran frat star and am accustomed to the frafestyle (frat lifestyle).
