bonobos runs 20% off first purchase, they have loads of handsewns they cycle each season that eventually hit a good price on clearance.

this is where I copped my oakstreet, they've got a size 9.5 pair in navy left. they also run infrequent sales, 20% off on black friday and christmas day. ended up paying like 225 dollars instead of 328

oak street itself does 10% off about 4 times a year, free shipping. consider grailed and ebay as both good options, but copping second hand shoes can be sus. bonobos and club monaco bring in new handsewns every season. good hunting

I think your problem is that you're thinking of prep as a lifestyle. This is /fa/. People might talk about wanting to live like a 1%er in New England, but since most people here can't do that, these threads are about how to LOOK preppy, not BE preppy. I don't think anyone here on an anonymous imageboard has any pretensions to being what they're not.

And anyway, even though I might be an old money fuccboi that's been wearing bespoke suits since he was 15, most people can't afford $600 shirts like I (and possibly you, but I don't know you) can. Personally I think my city would look a hell of a lot better if prep became more mainstream, so if VV can make the style both more popular and more accessible then who gives a fuck if it's not the exact same as what only the 1% can afford? It's not like prep is some kind of deep, dark secret that only the ultra-wealthy are supposed to be in on.

Dunno, I haven't slept in 3 days but that's my 2¢ on it.

VV has no place in a man's wardrobe imo

it's too much polyester, too many gaudy designs and colors

and the fit/cut leave alot to be desired

>why don't you just taper them meant to be tailored hurrr

well they're not built that way
pants mean to be tailored have a 2 piece waist band

the vv stuff has one piece

and there are limits to tapering, vv is cut in a pattern in a manner so you cannot taper to a proper slim fit due to the leg and waist band construction

construction leaves a lot to be desired

basically its a brand that tries to under cut polo ralph lauren

with cheaper fabrics, mass produced one size fits all boxy cuts

and rather than going to caruso or cornelliani for polo by ralph lauren made in italy pieces

and high end polo ralph lauren foot wear (who makes them not again c&j right?) made in england leather shoes

they just produce everything in china

lie i said, before it's just cosplay clothing it's a caricature of higher end clothing

itsmarketed towards frat boys who can't afford an hermes piece so they buy a cartoon knock off and tell people its ironic

but people who have been around menswear long enough know that if you pick and choose some items from the lower end label you get some decent stuff

like these ties are only about $125ish

they also re-brand footwear

-----

the problem you're having is if i say one thing is good from a brand you assume i am saying the brand is god tier

you also don't know what rlbl or rlpl is

so its actually really hard to explain something to you

How? Im a HS senior, I live in NJ, I doubt I'm getting into any Ivys but how are northern frats like at Rutgers for example, what are they like? Do people dress like I imagine them to (chubbies and and shit) or is it nice prep

if your from the north your idea of a fraternity is probably correct. I hear that recently though a lot of old row frats at smaller schools are way more casual and moving away from their traditions. in the SEC even bottom tier fraternities are very traditional, hyper conservative, with a touch of outdoorsmanship. Up north you've got party guido 'frats' and secretive ivy league wankery for trust fund kids.
In the south everything's more on a middle ground.

Shorts/pants: Basic fucking shorts, basic fucking jeans. Avoid the "chubbies" hype, brand isn't really important here. LL Bean/Lands End is reliable and you can't beat the warranty.

Shoes: New Balance 990's and plain Sperry's (oatmeal)

Here in the south if you aren’t rocking Polo or Vines you might as well get out. Here in my top tier fraternity, in the south, we are usually found wearing the classics that have been established in our old money families for years. I was born (on our plantation) wearing an oxford Polo button down, a navy with gold buttons Brooks Brothers blazer, a pair of J. Crew khakis and a Vineyard Vines seersucker bow tie. I grew up wearing Costa Del Mars (in the 580 glass lens, of course) and Southern Tide croakies to complement my southern yachting/fishing lifestyle, and you bet that there were at least three Yeti coolers in the 60′ yacht at all times. In the summer, when it gets hot in the south, I will put on some Chubbies (Americas or bust) or Patagonia stand up shorts to match my Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirt, Columbia PFG or one of the various frocket t’s that I have collected from sorority slams or have bought from Vineyard Vines (P.S. if your t-shirt doesn’t have at least one anchor on it, throw it out). If I am day drinking at the house, listening to Africa or Wagon Wheel, I will sometimes throw on a Rowdy Gentlemen “Reagan-Bush ’84″ or “Back to Back World War Champs” tank with either my Sperrys, Chaco sandals, or Cole Haan drivers (aka frat cleats). If I am going raging, I will pretty much wear what I said above, but with a FaF pair of Ray Ban Clubmasters as they are super cheap ($80) and I can throw them away when I am done raging. On game day you better respect that I am wearing a Polo or Southern Proper baseball hat (worn backwards) in my school’s colors, to match my Vineyard Vines colorful pants, and because of course I am in the SEC, the pants and hat will be worn with a Polo white oxford button down, a Brooks Brothers navy blazer, and a Vineyard Vines seersucker bow tie.

>> No.9372615

>>9372613
When I go to formal with a slam (or two) I will be rocking a full seersucker suit with matching seersucker bow tie, with a flask (or two) of Makers Mark in my jacket. ...When I fly (on my private plane, of course) into Augusta to play 18 (yeah my dad is a member) I will be rocking a Polo/Masters logo visor, Polo/Southern Tide/Vineyard Vines polo shirt, 6″ Polo shorts with embroidered golf balls, and a Vineyards Vines belt with a golfing motif, of course I also play in my Cole Haans (frat cleats) because they essentially have spikes on them anyways. While I usually end up shooting around 130, it still frat because I usually get super drunk (on Nattys) and snapchat a photo of me at the course to all my fros (frat bros). In regards to belts, only buy them from Vineyard Vines, and make sure the pattern on them is really fratty, pastels are always good. Needlepoint belts are also super fr@, but make sure you force your slam to make one for you, as buying one is NF. Make sure to pick up a few pairs of Rowdy Gentlemen/Southern _____ swim trunks, and get them hemmed (by your private tailor, of course) to a FaF 4″ inseam. Yeah, it essentially boils down to that if you aren’t wearing Polo and VV you are NF and not cool. On another note, the biggest frat stars (including me) in my top tier fraternity (in the south) can usually put down around a case (24 brews) in an hour. While I don’t usually just go out and drink a full case, I do spend the night shotgunning the occasional Natty and drinking a handle of Makers until I blackout. If you want to get a bid to a top tier, you should my advice not with a grain of salt, but with line of coke as I am a veteran frat star and am accustomed to the frafestyle (frat lifestyle).

You should get enough t-shirts from going on formals and date parties and shit like that, don't spend any money on bullshit southern xyz brands.

993s are comfy as fuck and you'll probably have to buy them for pledgeship anyway. Bass makes better boat shoes than sperry. Get a dark leather color. Never wear boat shoes with pants.

Thrift like a motherfucker and steal rad shit from your dad. Hawaiian shirts pull wool. Get a few basic button downs that fit you well from brooks brothers or prl and then thrift the rest. Same goes for outerwear. Patty makes good shit, if you're rad enough take up fly fishing and get orvis and simms shit. if you can't find anything good at local thrift shops then check out yesterday's attic.

If you're gonna spend money on something get a nice navy suit and get it tailored. You can wear the jacket with jeans or khakis for semi-formal shit.

Stay away from bars, they turn you into a zombie and everyone knows you're barred out and you won't get laid. Coke > benzos.
