could anybody tell me the reason why you shouldnt mix brown with black? it doesnt look THAT bad honestly, is this just a myth or some inside joke?

>> No.9324238

It's a male suiting rule that was popular for some time. It does NOT apply to anything else. Anybody who says otherwise is an mfa drone

>> No.9324397

There are no fashion rules so it can be done

But look at that girl in WAYWT who wore brown boots with all black

The color looks really off and even a normal person with no artistic inclination can tell it's not an ideal color choice

some browns clash with some "black", but tbh if you can't see if two colors work you won't be able to pair any color. Hell, even all black can look shitty if you don't pair your shades properly.

What's the problem with naming your colors specific things? It helps you find the exact kind of thing you want. If Rick just called things brown he'd have to call his other shades of brown "browner" or "lighter than my normal brown". There's subtle differences in the color, there's not just "brown" black" "white" and "oxblood".

As said before, I think that's more of a guideline for suits. The only other thing is brown and black together can look very militant, so keep that in mind.

I don't really believe in the no black + brown rule myself, per se.

I think it's more of a "no black + dark color really close to black but not quite black" rule. Black and colors that are too dark but not black just makes everything look muddy and washed out, like the not-quite-black clothes are just faded or something.

Black + brown, black + navy etc look fine when the brown or navy are bright enough, like a beeswax leather brown or navy in a shinier material. But black + dark brown or black + really dark navy look like shit.
