Have owned two pairs throughout the seasons (SS13, FW13). Got sick of them both times eventually and just sold them. Great shoe, but unless you know you'll love it in the WAY future, don't purchase it because you'll just end up selling them.

All the colors are great in my opinion, even the popular Black / White. Just work them well into your outfit.

I like the Geos and most of Ricks other shoes but the problem with the majority of them is that they only really suit his sort of clothing, they can't be worn with much else so I can't really justify it since I don't wear any Rick and am usually dressed in SLP so it wouldn't' be right at all.

i used to love the all blacks and then i came to the conclusion that the best experience with them is seeing them age and watching the sole dirty and yellow. although the black and white with the branding (if you'd like to refer to the contrasted panel as that) may be the most popular, it is the best color way and they look great from the back and can add a nice but not obnoxious contrast to an all black outfit

If you want to buy them new on sale, and live in europe use Rick's store. If you're not in Europe get ready for a HEAVY import fee. Especially since Rick Store uses DHL to ship int. Buy them from wherever stocks them in your country.

IMO the OG black and white colorway almost always looks terrible. The only fits I've seen with them that work are full goof sort of fits, but most people aren't trying to go full ninja.

I really like the all black, black upper with white sole, all white, and crust geos. They're less loud than the black and white colorways (well, maybe not the all white or the crust), and they can work in fits that aren't full goof.

I just snagged the black upper with white sole colorway off grailed, and I've been surprised at how versatile they are. I've been wearing them with black skinnies or waxed denim (inb4 you need baggy pants), and a long tee under a bomber/varsity/flannel.

I have 2 pairs of rick shoes and didn't put much thought into the cost, I wanted them more than I wanted the ~£700 I paid for them new. They are luxury items and if you sweat over all the details trying to find out why the come to that price because for you personally it's a high price, you won't find it and would be much happier spending the money on something else

Materials, design, name, low production quantities. They're made completely of full grain leather, they're a totally unique design, the soles aren't used for any other products and are probably expensive to produce, and small production runs mean prices have to be high to justify the cost of doing small batches. There are also indirect costs - Rick stores are generally in high rent areas which indirectly contributes to a more expensive product. Rick Owens nane inevitably adds to the sticker price.

I'm not saying they're "worth" 1400, but those are a few factors that explain some the high price. In addition, many people on here bought theirs used (myself included) for less than half of retail. They're well made, last forever, and look better a little beat up, so paying sticker price is foolhardy imo.

This is what I never understand about the Trunks bashing, as all his deriders continue to spam pictures from his earliest days on /fa/, Trunks himself has simply continued to improve his fits. Where are you getting your info? Geos don't fall to pieces at all, the sole will degrade like all rubber soles do but a preemptive heel tap will make them last years if you aren't going to festivals or playing fucking squash in them. Dunks are notorious for 'falling apart' because they were held together at the back with an industrial staple. So current geos will typically have a much longer lifespan the old geos i.e. dunks.

heel taps are pieces of rubber put on the heels to prevent excessive wear.

taking care of them basic shoecare stuff, same as any other leather shoe. slightly different if you buy a reversed leather model.
don't wear leather shoes every day if you want them to last, you'll have them for infinitely longer if they're in rotation with at least two other pairs of shoes.
don't wear them in shitty weather, obviously, condition them frequently and brush them with a horsehair brush.
store them with shoetrees after wear. unsealed cedar trees, large enough to fill out the shoe. it'll prevent them from smelling, keep the toebox in shape and absorb any moisture from wear
store them in a dustbag if you aren't going to wear them for an extended period of time.

if you wear them like beaters they're going to age like beaters, be aware of this.

Leather. Dye has bled onto the soles and the rubber has oxidized so the pink is basically fused into the sole. geobaskets get a bad rep on the internet these days for being a meme and all, but honestly if you think you can do em justice (at the end of the day they're super high top crazy chunky boot sneakers) then cop. very unique silhouette, wonderful quality (I have a FW12 b/w pair and have owned other pairs in the past) and I've never ever seen another pair of geos in the wild in all my years in the bay area, although I'm sure theres a handful out there.

used to like the all black/white sole geo the most, but the classic b/w is definitely my favorite now. the all black one just kinda looks like a big undefined chunk. all white is a close second favorite.

if you struggle with the amount of money, just spend a little more money on vnds or lightly worn ones as opposed to some that are already worn in... and keep them looking nice. if you decide they're not for you, you won't take too big of a hit at all when you sell them off.

i just want to note that a shoetree probably won't do much for keeping the shape. the toebox is in hardened leather and doesn't really sink down. it's definitely helpful for the other reasons though.
