I went to the opticians today for an eye test and it turns out I need glasses. Which styles of glasses are /fa/ and do you guys have any tips for picking the right type for your head shape/facial features?

You should try them on to see what fits you best, I wear those

don't buy huge glasses if you have a small head. don't buy small glasses if you have a huge head. make sure they don't cover your eyebrows. personally, I like half frames but full frames are good too, as long as they aren't too bulky. besides that, just make sure the color of frames works with your wardrobe (don't get a bright color, basically). black, clear, brown are all fine.

Clear frames seem to be the new wave. I'll probably need some soon (used to have 20/15 vision but it is known that better than 20/20 degrades quickly)

Don't buy these

Avoid thick frames. Those have been steadily rising in popularity among the plebs since 2011.

Go for something like in pic related if you have a oval or oblong head.

Glasses more than any other article of clothing or accessory are dependent on your unique physical features. There are trends, but more important than a current style is a style of frame that fits your face. The most /fa/ pair of glasses is going to change from person to person.

All that said, rounder frames are in, though some people will say they're nearing the end of their stay. Plastic is still more popular than wire or metal, but wire has started making a comeback in the past year.

Don't get Transitions.

your face shape isn't going to remain consistent throughout the day, depending on if you're smiling, frowning, or just remaining in a perfectly neutral expression. we forget that our face has muscles that we use that can change the way a face looks, hence the way glasses will look. the jaw structure and chin recession is the key factor, this is the most stable component and the decisive factor into determining what kind of glasses will enhance your aesthetics, rather than detract.

for your specific type of face, skin tone, gender, I would say opt for either glasses with softer edges that are more rounded, or, if you want to be unconventional (and hopefully you have the charisma/personality to pull this off), then go for something that is opposite of your facial structure, so in this case, try on glasses that are superbly narrow, rectangular, and with straight edges.

there's two schools of thought toward picking out glasses: some say the facial structure of your face should complement the structure of the glasses/vice-versa, whereas the other school of thought is that glasses-face should be polar opposites, e.g. round face = square glasses, square face = round glasses. try both schools of thought, get both kinds of glasses, then opt for the mid-way balance if you like neither ends.

I find that the easiest thing to do in these cases is pick out the glasses you've already chosen and like, try them on with pictures, include those pictures, and put them here for us to make the decision. otherwise it's all guess-work and imaginary fantasy-land bullshit.

Most correctional glasses don't look good tinted, most sunglasses don't look with correctional lenses. Transitions make you compromise on a piece you shouldn't have to. If you need sunglasses, get sunglasses. Most of the time you don't actually need them though, so it's just an unnecessary feature.

Personally I also feel like they just kind of scream, "I may be in middle school, but my glasses are also sunglasses, so I'm pretty cool."

There's also the slowness of the actual transition itself. You're gonna be somewhere on the asshole-wearing-shades-inside spectrum for the first few minutes of every time you walk into a building, and somewhere on the this-is-brighter-than-anticipated spectrum every time you walk out of one.

I own 4-5 pairs in different colors
Got lasik, so I switched out the lenses and made them sunglasses. If it works for your face, you will not regret
