I think that what's going on is that with our generation, unlike any in the past, being left/liberal is the baseline. It's all feelings this and equality that in the media/schools, and sjw shit running rampant on the internet, which makes being on the right/conservative seem alternative and edgy, as opposed to our parents' generation and the others before it, where being conservative was the standard, and being a liberal was the rebellion.
