Can someone please explain the point of tattoos that goes beyond cultural and institution driven meaning?

Such a large percentage of tattoos come off as gaudy or a product of little long term thought. There really is nothing about tattoos that most people get that seems genuinely significant so why exactly get arm sleeves of a wolf or a squid fighting a boat, a turtle or a tribal band?

Why get birds or your dead cat on your chest or back?

I thought about getting one in a place that'd be completely invisible in case I was in a horrid smash up or plane crash and they needed another way to identify the corpse. as long as you are getting a tattoo of something that youve liked for a significant amount of time, i don't see the problem. if you have liked this thing for a long time, and get an aesthetically pleasing designed tattoo of this thing, it will probably make you feel happy everytime you see it for the rest of your life.

keep tattoo placement to places that can be hidden by business wear, because you should keep your interests to yourself in a work setting (unless others seek these out), just like other opinions.
