It's called a bezel. It is meant to be a time reference for divers, to give a clear visual to time remaining oxygen. The 5 minute increments help to avoid decompression sickness. Before dive computers came to the market, dive watches were an absolute must. I still wear mine, though, just in case.

Even if you don't dive, you can still use a bezel for pretty much anything. Use it for cooking, parking spaces, etc. etc.

I bet it's (or at least can be) useful, however, I simply find it aesthetically dubious and weird. And if the bezel can move on its own under the sleeve (it can't right?) it would irk me, make me adjust it every second, making it working lighter and needing more adjustments and triggering me that much more often.
Some models are nice, though.

because the crystal ("glass on the front") is arcrylic aka plastic. even the $10 walmart watches use mineral crystal (low end glass but alas still glass)

you can remove the movement (easy since it's just a spacer equipped cheap china quartz movement) and use a press to replace it.

i doubt the brand is high end enough to sell replacement parts, moreso skagen watches are so cheap they are built to be disposable... since the labor alone replacing a crystal is pretty pricey...

no, alot of watch brands have case specific method of attaching bands, this is not a trait exclusive to this low end watch brand...the watch in his image cleraly has cast lugs that were drilled through, which take standard spring bars it's a cheaper method of spitting out these low end base metal brass plated cases.

I've scratched mine and it doesn't look like scratched plastic, it looks like scratched glass. Wherever they post specs, the crystal is listed as mineral glass not acrylic. Moreover, there are quite a lot of complaints it cracks easily, which is typical for mineral glass.

and arcrylic on many seiko 5

$450 goes a long way in watches that retail under $900....and with seiko the difference is immense.

Also, besides what others here think, a good watch has a lot more than a saphire crystal. The overall quality of the entire watch should be as god as posible in perspective of the pricetag. This means case, dial, hands, movement, crystal, crown, lugs, and strap or bracelet, design and intemde purpouse. Besides their saphire crystals, Technomarine pretty much drops the ball in almost any other categorie.

As the other anon said, brands like JLC or VC don't use endorsement, they use ADVERTISING (like magazines or even TV comercials). For those they do need a good looking fella or beautiful girl, often famous, to present their products, but this people do not become public faces for the brand, they won't be force to be present or speak up the brands in any social events because this is considered tacky among the high-end luxury market.
Or, they would patrocinate some kind of event, like a golf tournament (Rolex), an important horse race or Polo tournement (JLC), an art exposition (AP), an important classica concert for charity (Breguet) an historique auction for fund raising (VC) and so on... (I've been invited to all of this and more) but they won't make this celebrities endorse the brand (althou they are contracted fir a particular model) anywhere outside that particular campaign. With te exception of AP wich pulls out horrible special editions for certain people.

Lovely. Go for it. Have in mid taht Oris has made several renditions of this watch so you might want to walk around town or even neighbor towns to find tge one you like the most. (Guilloché dial, sunburst dial, grain dial, mirror dial, luminiscent indexes, small seconds, big seconds, date (at three or six) no date, etc...) They all have the same movement so no worries there.

Don't care. Acrylic fulfills the same purpose that a saphire one would: it displays the movement. Having a higher end caseback is a waste of money anyway. The caseback isn't going to be exposed enough to get scratched or shattered. Why should it be anything but acrylic?

The day/date wheels are plastic because metal wheels require lubrication, while plastic ones do not. This results in the watch surviving longer without maintenance.

The end links are junk, sure, but that goes for any <$200 watch, and even many >$400 watches. In any case, almost any Seiko 5 looks better on leather.

What's weird is I have a pretty large hand and wrist. I'm 6'3 190 so you have to be enormous to make that seem "proportional." I don't mind the big face. It's pretty comfortable.

Smaller proportional time pieces look pointless on me, like a useless bracelet almost.
