Hair care thread?
Hair Care thread

I am just now realizing the importance of healthy hair in appearance. You can have whatever haircut or hairline, but if it's dry/damaged it, and thus you as well, will look like shit.

Any suggestions for good conditioners? what kind of moisturizing routine would someone with extremely dry scalp/hair adopt? I'm a guy and when I go to buy conditioner or whatever i've no fucking clue what is good or not

>> No.8702322

OP this is my shit.
If you are unsure or don't want to spend a lot of money do hot oil treatments. You can literally just warm up some olive oil or coconut oil in the microwave and soak your hair in it. You can wear it for as long as you want but I heard it only works for 15 minutes. You need to shampoo it out.
I HIGHLY recommend Redken all soft heavy or super cream.
Then I would get a hair oil for after showers. You can pretty much use anything but I prefer Moroccan Oil.

I died my hair very blond from black and my hair was completely ruined but these product and a few others really helped.

I don't own any shampoo and I have vowed to never shampoo again cause my hair is extremely dry and that was only making it worse

I have tried hot oil treatments, but my hair always smells awful afterwards regardless if i wash it all out

I just make sure not to wash my hair too often, and I dont really have problems with dry and/or damaged hair inbetween haircuts (3 months)

A lot of people shampoo their hair every single day, and thats just asking for dry hair and a dry scalp.

>> No.8702355

It is because you are using very cheap shampoo.
Redken's shampoo line is killer as well if you're interested.
Do not wash your hair everyday, go as long as you can before it gets nasty.
I have back length hair, very curly and regularly heat styled so I know what works and doesn't.
If you want to fix your hair you have to deal with a lot of shit. Which oil did you use, because olive oil and coconut smell nice...

Hair oils will perfume your hair as well, if you're unsure im talking about argan oil

I'm a guy and I have to flat iron my hair to make it manageable due to annoying cowlicks, so i don't wash it every day. It's overly dry so it never gets greasy or anything. This is why i need to find a routine where i can condition once a week or every other week or something so i don't have to apply heat to my hair so often

When I did the hot oil treatment I used vegetable oil i think, but it reeked of fried chicken after i washed it so i never did it again. i now have some kind of garnier fructis moroccan sleek oil that I put in that makes it much less dry, but I would still like to get as healthy hair as possible

Your hair can't get healthy, it can only absorb moisture, which is why you need to regularly condition in.
1. Shampoo once a week. invest in a high quality brand or sulfate-free shampoo.
2. every time you wet your hair you need to apply conditioner, let sit for 5 min and rise.
3. if you want apply deep moisturizer/mask once weekly. use olive oil or coconut if u dont like the smell.
4. after shower with damp hair apply hair oil.
5. before straightening apply heat protector to prevent moisture loss, u can apply more oil if needed

the heat protectant I have been using I just looked at the fucking ingredients and it has alcohol. I guess that's probably another big reason my hair dries out like shit since I applied so much to avoid frying my hair

What is the point of shampooing though, i don't understand, if i dont have dandruff and my hair always smells good from conditioner and moroccan oil, why do i need to shampoo it and thus make it dryer?

I honestly don't even know what to do with my hair

Sorry I can't because I haven't played around too much with different hair product beyond those two.

You could go with Joico but that shit's expensive. Then again this is /fa/ so your budget probably exceeds mine.

this. also understand that there's someone on hand just off set to constantly adjust the hair - and it often only looks good from one angel/the lens and looks ridiculous in all other lights.

but YES diet!
LISTEN UP NERDS.
>avocado, spinach, flax/chia seed, seaweed, sweet potato, kiwi, black/blueberries, papaya.
all these are either ridiculously oily (v good) or have very high amounts of vitamin C and beta-carotenes. binge on these. eat them in salads, blend them to smoothies, drink them as juices, just get an excess into your bodies.

also. apple cider vinegar. fantastic for both hair and skin. for a hair rinse, do a 1:3 acv to water ratio and pour it in your hair and rub into scalp in the shower. thank me later.
for a toner, water, green/white tea and acv in a 2:2:1 ratio, put in a spray bottle and spritz on face. again, thank me later.

if all else fails, bring out the big guns. go on lush and get The Strokes hair treatment. your hair will soak it up, but it wont last if you don't incorporate the above into your diet/routine.

As of today, I haven't shampooed for 8 days.

Hair is great so far.

Should I be conditioning? Daily?
