i never understood why forums are appealing to anyone, just the format itself

before zuckerbook it was a p good way of community organization. easy to moderate/organize stream of conversation, reward participants with veteran status. also traditional forums allow a p good platform to craft an online persona.
now it is pretty archaic tho. i guess for some there's something about being able to build ur own clubhouse, even if it is an awkward format.

Archaic as opposed to what?
Facebook has things "for discussion," but it is meant for the level of shit going on on a forum.
Plus on a forum you don't have to add a bunch of randoms.

i meant like facebook pages/groups
and all its contemporaries

but

>email verified sign up required for each forum
>no media hosting, html embedding only
>strict member hierarchy
>long/consistent threads still put new posts at the end, e g 237 pages of WAYWT, the first of which is from 2009

i love forums, have some good memories on forums from back in the day. but newer platforms have risen.
