Just got a small haul of samples, mainly to test out the new CdG fragrances:

Serpentine: Very similar to the musk power house of their self-titled EdP; but the galbanum and other green accords really seems to transport the scent to a softer, more vegetal version, a moves it away from the super synthetic, toner ink, package tape smelling qualities their self-titled EdP had. It's also highly reminiscent of CdG 3, without the luscious Sandalwood, and again, has more focus on green notes. Actually, maybe it's a bit too similar to CdG 3. All in all, it's beautiful cooler summer fragrance.

Wisteria Hysteria: Soapy, florally, and somewhat musky. A very well-rounded, but ultimately very feminine fragrance. If you enjoy wisteria, and want a slightly warmer take on it, you'll really enjoy this one. Quite seductive, to be honest.

Lumiere Blanche by Olfactive Studios: This one piqued my interest when I smelled it about a year and a half ago. Decided to revisit it, and it's grown on me more than before. It's a cooler gourmand, and completely appropriate for summer weather (unlike most of its similarly classified siblings). If you like milky vanilla and sweet almonds, this one is probably for you. It's more of a transparent fragrance, than overtly cloying, so it seems to be intended for more intimate interaction between people.

>> No.8324933

>>8324859
Wonderwood is pretty cloying. It's also very spicy, and woody (obv). It's much better suited for late fall + winter seasons, but it's also fairly polarizing. You need to be pretty comfortable with the scent and yourself to wear it.

If you want something more subtle, look into "transparent" scents/fragrances. Either way, it's good to test out samples to get to know the notes you're smelling, and to intimately test potential fragrances. A lot of these aren't super cheap, so you don't want to blind buy, or buy without testing *on your skin* for at least a full day or longer.

No, Le Labo just dropped the genders from their labels. Their web site doesn't list them anymore either, though if you read the descriptions, some have references to it being a male or female scent.

Not that it matters too much. Virtually all of their stuff qualifies as unisex to begin with, and "gendering" when it comes to fragrances is pointless.

I havn't tried Jazz either, but the other two vary between expensive Axe, and Eau De LockerRoom tier.

They're what you get as a gift, and it could go two ways from there. Either you never wear them, because you're an adult with working sense of smell, or you overdose on them, making everybody remember you as "that guy who doesn't bathe, just uses cheap deodorant"

Le Labo Bergamote 22 is honestly the best, though I can understand not wanting to pay $160 for 1.7 oz.

Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Bergamotto di Calabria is also great and ~$100 for 2.5 oz. A bit weak on the longevity, as to be expected from AdP.

cheaper options,
Mugler Cologne by Thierry Mugler
Eau Universelle from L'Occitane (it's an eau de cologne though, as opposed to the eau de parfum of the Le Labo and the eau de toilettes of the AdP and Theirry Mugler, so it's longevity is practically nonexistent, but you get 10 oz. for like ~$60)

Fragrance (and beauty in general) isn't a very "avant garde" industry because you make your profits by selling large volumes. You have older perfumery houses that sell more expensive formulations, but there's aren't nearly as manly straight up "experimental" fragrances in the same vein as you'd find in clothing. CdG is a notable exception as are lines like Six Scents, Etat Libre d'Orange, and Blood Concept, but given that most perfumes are the products of large corporations like L'Oreal and Coty, it's just not as feasible to produce tiny, niche weirdo scents.

I've been wondering lately

Cologne works best when mixed with your body's natural oils, right? That's how you get a longer duration of scent from a given amount

What if you sprayed your favorite scent moderately in your bed? Then you'd be rolling in it all night, pretty much taking a 5-8 hour scent bath

Is this stupid, and if so, why?

cologne has such a high alcohol content that it dries almost immediately and clings to whatever surface it was applied to. the scent wouldn't transfer well.

that being said, i find that it's best to apply cologne to clothes/hair rather than the skin. after the alcohol dries, the scent stays in the fabric much better than it'd stay on skin.

>> No.8341973

>>8341944
spraying alcohol on oil will not make the oil evaporate, just the alcohol. that being said, getting alcohol on your SCALP is generally a bad idea. you'll get the best result from spraying far away only on the top and working your hands through it to distribute it better.

it'll really only have a noticeable scent if you have long hair, though. i'd recommend using pleasantly-scented hair product instead.

>> No.8342002

>>8341973
Ah, okay. I do have long hair so scents really stay in it. Unfortunately this means my conditioner leaves a strong smell in there, and while it isn't a bad smell, it'd rather have a cohesive one instead of separate smells for my hair and the rest of me.
