To be fair i the video game developers are designing their characters to have consistency in the universe they created. They're not really supposed to look like they just walked out of some High fashion look book.

If the main character in watch dogs for example was some Auschwitz mode dude wearing full rick with a Hitler youth cut he would be really out of place and it would make the game feel really disjointed.

GTA V was complete trash, there is no doubt about it, most people I know played it for roughly 2 weeks, finished the campaign and dropped it.

Eidos Montreal were a bunch of clueless nerds as well but they understood that when you don't have a clue you go do real world research.

There's nothing the least bit autistic about the art direction in HR, it's one of the least autistic because it's actually based on real ideas and concepts that are relevant at the moment in art and design. The only other game I can think of that's on the same level is EVE online which Sruli Recht helped out with.

You can watch it progress from a good concept about digital warfare to marketable explosion n guns simulator as the promotional material progressed. I think that's what they're trying to do with AAA games these days. Try to get early adopters with high hopes and the plebs will trickle in as more guns and explosions are introduced.
