/fa/, I've come to realize something. Recently I went through my wardrobe and began sorting things into piles of things I wear and care about and things I don't wear and don't care about. I have come to the conclusion that about 70% of my clothing is unworn.

I have always been the person who buys the cheap alternative to everything. If I want a pair of black chinos for example, I will buy them for $50 from a mall tier store rather than pay $150 for some decent quality pair from a respectable brand. In the short term I feel as if I have saved myself money but looking back, I realize that spending that extra $100 is the difference between a pair of chinos that I still wear today and a pair that I put away in a draw.

All the more expensive pieces of clothing I have bought I am still getting use out of and everything that I skimped on is sitting unused. I must have spent about $1000 - $2000 over the past year on low quality clothes and if I had put that money into a small selection of high quality basics, I would be ultimately happier.

I'm sure many of you know this already and have already learned this lesson but to you newcomers who are constantly asking for "cheap alternatives" to this or that, just save for a little longer and buy what you really want because in a years time, that pair of Vibram boots are going to have brought you a lot more joy than those pair of ASOS boots you settled for or that Alexander Wang longsleeve is going to be a better investment than the H&M lookalike. Money isn't wasted on expensive things that you use. It's wasted on inexpensive things you don't use.

Cop less, Cop better, we know this.

I haven't really bought much recently and have been designing my own rather than buying shit I can't afford rly.

>alexander wang longsleeve
yeah dude thats where you went wrong

In all seriously though, this is something valuable to learn. I'm glad you learnt this, OP, even if it took you a while.

Basic stuff rly, I'm in the middle of designing this tee using fleece material, In the future I might try pants & jackets, but I feel my sewing machine skills aren't up to stratch yet.

>> No.8142747

Yeah, or you could just buy clothes that you're actually going to wear instead of buying clothes that you think is a good deal.

lol good luck with that
u'd be better off getting one second hand thats in good condition for like 50 on ebay or gumtree or a garage sale for even less.

Pants and jackets will also be hard without an industrial machine but I'm sure you'll manage dude. its a fun experience playing around either way.

oh and if you get real keen look into a knitting machine. fun as fuck

yeah over lockers are very useful and you should be able to find one for not too much money.

Whats a reasonable price in terms of overlockers?

>> No.8142849

>>8142832
It's hard to say man. I'd say go for second hand but there is such a range. Maybe look at paying $100 or so. Schools and places like that replace theirs every now and then.

>> No.8142854

>>8142832
As with everything quality is better so you could pay a lot
The one I have used was from ALDI (lol) and worked fine. Just look around and Get a cheap one - just whatever you think - but just make sure it works and get the owner to run you through using it. You'll need it if you're wanting to see jersey and sweaters and etc.

The end product fits like one of those 70s knitted t shirts, looks great tucked. I wanna fuck with prints, but I got no means of printing what I'd want to, so I use fabrics, which I feel have more potential

>> No.8143275

looks neat

ur a cool guy gaspar

what fabric u using? howd you get started on this sort of stuff?

>> No.8143283

>>8143256
yeah i guess for quality prints the initial investment for all the appliances is pretty daunting. I'm more of a fabrics guy anyway so that works for me. tossed out all but one or two of my shirts with print on it a while ago.

keep doing what you do mang
