POLL - How long to you wait before washing your denims?

I don't see the hype in waiting 6 months for washing raw jeans, So I wash mine every month.

>> No.8051008

I don't wash my raws at all.

>> No.8051022

Every month or so. I don't wash on a set schedule.

>>8051008
You're shortening their life doing that.

OP here. I said that by not washing raws, they're more prone to ripping because they're too rigid and then don't bend as much, they crease. And that's what causes the rips. The guys who I said it to all laughed and called me a candyass (Cant remember what they called me so that will do). Am I rite or?

Can you get selvedge jeans that aren't raw?

I like the look of selvedge when it's cuffed but I'm not sure if I want to deal with indigo bleed. On that note, if I do get raws, how long does it usually take for bleed out to stop?

>> No.8051050

>>8051041
That might be a part of it, but the accumulated bacteria also break the denim down quicker than if you washed them regularly.

You sure can! Nudie, Lee and Edwin do some really nice washed denim in selvedge.

As long as it goes without. I used to wash them every other month, though but I try to wear them as long as possible. I want to get a shrink-to-fit which I'll try to wear five to six month before doing anything with it.

By the way, regarding s-t-f, I consider getting a 501. I usually wear 34/32. Should I get a 34/34 or a 34/36? How much do they actually shrink in length?

>> No.8051068

I wash my jeans as soon as I get them from the thrift store.

>> No.8051075

Just wondering, all this jeans hype is this applicable for H&M border line stuff too? I mean, what exactly is the thought about not washing your jeans other than poor hygiene?

>> No.8051072

>>8051047
you could always just wash it...

>> No.8051080

>>8051064

Depends on the water temp, but I think MAX, they will shrink about 10% with STF. But I've also heard people getting a size bigger in the waist. If you're a tight fit around the waist with 34, then get a 36 because there will be a small amount of shrinkage horizontally. If you fit nicely into a 34, get a 34. If they shrink, they will stretch out over time.

It's about getting the typical fades faster and a tad more pronounced. But it's kinda bad for the fabric (some like rips and stuff like that, though) and yeah, hygiene is a thing as well.

Noice

What about the other question? Raws are appealing but the indigo bleed thing puts me off because I like my white sneaks.

>>8051072
Fair play. How does that affect fades and whatnot?

Unrelated question: w2c skinny black jeans with a small leg opening and some stretch to it. Acne Ace Cash fit the description but I'd like to know my options.

>> No.8051091

>>8051075

You don't have to own a pair of really expensive jeans to do this AT ALL. People don't wash their jeans because they think they will last longer that way and they will fade more uniquely. Go and grab a pair of H&M jeans, unstitch the patch at the back and nobody will know!

>> No.8051098

>>8051085

Well, raw denim doesn't realllllly stop bleeding as such. If you soak them in a super boiling bath, they won't bleed AS MUCH... but over time, you're still gonna get a bit of bleed. You said you like the cuffs? There's your solution. Cuff them to stop them bleeding onto your white sneakkkz.

>> No.8051110

>>8051080
Hey thanks! Yes, 34 is a tight fit. Not uncomfortable at all, but there is not too much space either. I think I once saw some funky sizes with STF, 35/38 and stuff like that. I might get something like that (but with a 34-36 in length). If not I guess I'll grab a 36. They are not too expensive so I can experiment with them a little.

>> No.8051117

>>8051098
Ok, if I get some I might soak them first and cuff them to be safe

>> No.8051395

Tall asshole here.
I get 501 STFs in 36x40 and they're just about perfect, but they only offer them in blue
Any options for me in black or khaki or something? I look like a farmer in these thigns, but since levi's fucked up their 505 preshrunk, it's the only jeans that really fit

I've had my raws for 4 months now and I've never presoaked them nor has water ever touched them. What would happen if I gave them a warm water soak right now? Would it ruin muh fades?

I'm trying to stop the seemingly endless indigo run onto my shoes

if you wear unsanforized jeans enough to produce fades before you soak them then the fades will shift and look un natural. Like honeycombs 2-3 inches above where your knees bend.

>> No.8054100

>>8054078
Hopefully he's talking about sanforized, because there's no reason not to soak unsanforized jeans.

Ooooooookay, let's get something straight here. Indigo is water insoluble. It can't ruin fades. If your fades are not what you wanted, it's because your lifestyle doesn't support them or because you bought the wrong jeans or both. Water does fuck all to fades and, ultimately, raw denim isn't about dem fades, so get over it.

With raw denim, is the "faster fading business" over once the jeans is washed? In other words: Once I washed it a few times already before wearing them for a prolonged time would it be of any use to start now washing them less and wearing them longer? Or wouldn't it do me any good now anyway?

How's Carhartt for denim?

In particular their raws. How much do they bleed?
