Anybody here wearing out raw denim? How many months are you on? Does it stink?

I want to jump into naturally aging denim. Anybody suggest a good brand.

>> No.8012516

I'm wearing my APC petite standards right now, about 3 months in. Sized down 2, waist is a bit lose, otherwise fit great. No smell yet, fades starting to be noticeable.

>> No.8012521

2nd month, no smell yet. N&F weird guy selvedge indigo. Thighs are a bit too big for me, but still looks slick. Won't be wearing it during summer though.

If you plan on doing raws during summer, try to cop something with lightweight denim <10oz.

>> No.8012542

Do you fit it a bit loose since it'll shrink once you wash it?

>> No.8012544

>>8012542
I did. But it depends on whether it's sanforized denim or not. Unsanforized shrinks alot more than sanforized.

>> No.8012578

Got APC Petit New Standards 2 months ago. Fairly regular wear (>3 times a week). Nothing too strenuous in them, I wear cheaper jeans if I'm going to clubs. I sized down once but wish I'd sized down twice. Can't tell if they stretched or if I just lost a bit of weight. No noticeable fades yet but they're certainly getting comfier. I find having nice denim satisfying.

apc, N&F, these brands are great if you like the style and fits
but if you really want a good pair of raw with , Start with something like momotaro, pbj, samurai, or even lvc but I suggest japanese.

they run you about $100 more than these other brands, but if you were to hold the two in your hands to discern which is better, the quality and charcteristics of the better brands will make them look like H&M varients

one day you end up buying pbj, and you say to yourself, why the FUCK didn't I start fading these first? why did I climb up the brand latter when I have a bunch of stuff I don't want to wear anymore when I could have bought more and more high quality stuff from the get go and had a plethora of awesome faded shit to wear?

Depends on whether they're sanforized. Sanforization is a treatment for fabrics that is used to reduce shrinkage of the final product. Most raws are not sanforized, which means that they will shrink quite a bit. That being said, cotton will stretch over time, so the jeans will shrink after your first soak and then the waist will stretch a bit.

I'm not familiar with Unbranded denim, so someone else can probably advise you on sizing.

Not really.
The denim is stiff and abrasive, it's why they fade nicely, but these fades are damages made to the denim.
People don't wash their raws because it stresses points where the denim fades and yield high-contrast fades, but it also lower durability.
But in the end, raws are more about the journey than the result. If you are looking for subtle fades and wash them every month, they will last you quite a while.

Low rise means the waist will come up just above your dick, which is usually quite uncomfortable, so you have to wear it low or sag it or you might cut off circulation to your nuts.

Medium rise I guess is the more common for most pants. Picture it sitting somewhere in between your dick and belly button.

High rise will usually sit just under your belly button depending on how high it really is.

Personally, I hate low rise. Some people love it. To each their own. I find that medium rise is usually fine and high rise I find to be the most comfortable.

you're fine.

People get too worked up over this. They are jeans, they won't fall apart in water.

Just hang dry them to make sure they air out. If not, they might develop a weird smell. If so, just soak them in the bath for 30 - 45 minutes and hang dry. The smell should go away with minimal indigo loss.

if they dry and they don't smell, then there is no issue.

Seriously, I don't get this whole "babying your jeans" thing. Clothes are clothes. Don't be stupid about shit, but don't sit there worrying about them either.

but you're not taking into consideration the purpose of the item?
a $400 supima blazer should be babied
a $300 pair of jeans shouldn't be

it's a poor persons mentality to overvalue his possessions instead of the intention said items carry.
I know because I'm a poor person, but when you grow up you realise time is more valuable than money, so what you do in your clothes should reflect what those clothes have been constructed for, and not what they cost you.

it is then up to your clothes to deliver on what they cost and what you use them for.
if denim, they should look great, fade nicely, and last a damn long time
if blazer, it should look very good, not fade at all, and last in the appropriate, non-rugged environment it was designed for, dinner parties and nice outings.

in any case, you should take care of what you own, but not beyond what they were made to handle.

>> No.8022063

>>8021700
yea no i froze them once but it just seemed stupid to me. Baking soda has magical cleaning properties. Thats why they sell baking soda for you to put in your fridge so it wont smell.

One time I was rushing somewhere and I grabbed a pair of jeans to change into cuz we were going out to a nice dinner place and I before I put them on I realized they smelled and I just bought some baking soda in them and left it there for half an hour and the smell was gone. After that day I never thought twice about it.

All in all baking soda just leaves jeans smelling neutral and thats what I like.

On another note, Im thinking about starting my own raw denim brand, making the jeans myself and all. Does anyone have any experience with sewing that they would be willing to shed some light on as I am mainly doing research on the internet and if anyone knows where to start with this that would be a big help.

I wear mine like 4 times a week, I don't really know why anyone has the smell problem. Mine literally smell of nothing, well the smell of my house at the least. Use talcum powder directly onto your skin around the crotch if it's that much of a problem, but it probably won't fix the smell if it's directly from your jeans. They'll be fine after a wash.

>> No.8023049

>>8021719
I set it on soak, use woolite dark, and let it air dry.

Another thing,if you want to get the shrinkage out of the way with an initial soak but is afraid of over shrinking it,just take a bath with your jeans on it'll get rid of excess indigo and conform to your body.

>> No.8024261

>>8022799
I just tried baking soda like another anon said. it worked a little i guess, but the smell is still there if i put my nose right to the crotch.
>>8023049
Thanks, i've wanted to use woolite dark but i wasnt too sure if that would even give me good fades. mine are sanforized and a near perfect fit so i hope they dont shrink much haha

Indigo isn't water soluble. The rain does absolutely nothing to them.

>> No.8025075

You'd want to shrink them first. That's the point. The initial soak shapes them to your body so the fades that then develop are unique to your body.
