>rubbing oil on your face
If your skin's oily, adding more oil isn't such a good idea.

I've never broken out from oils. Dabbing oil on my face at night during the winter softens the skin and prevents flaking.

>However, there is one study showing that lauric acid, the major fatty acid in coconut oil, has antibacterial activity against the strain of acne-supporting bacteria, officially known as Propionibacterium acnes, or P. acnes for short. Although one study isn't much to go on and this research did not demonstrate that the lauric acid reduced or eliminated acne, it's still intriguing.

It seems that when lauric acid from coconut oil is applied to skin via liposomes (a type of delivery system) it fuses with the cell membrane of the acne-causing bacteria, where it then releases its fatty acid as the liposome dissolves, killing the acne-causing bacteria (Source: Biomaterials, 2009).

>On the flipside, despite coconut oil’s potential benefit, some fatty acids have the reverse effect of making breakouts worse. Rather than use pure coconut oil, consider products that contain anti-inflammatory ingredients and are much more appropriate for a wider range of skin types (as well as delivery systems ideal to get the most from their benefits.)

Hope you know what you're doing, anon.

> Essential oils can contain volatile compounds, increase free radical production, and be irritating - in the amounts they are found in beauty products.
Every time I turn around, it seems there's a new haute oil for sale at Sephora. At first glance, this makes sense- these beauty oils often contain high concentrations of lipids that leave skin feeling softer and hydrated from the get-go. Even better: Essential oils have been proven to increase the absorption of other ingredients up to 30-fold. [...]

Avoid them - or dilute them!
>Though they are considered by many to be antioxidants, some pure essential oils "can act as prooxidants affecting inner cell membranes and organelles such as mitochondria" (Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2008).

www.futurederm.com/2012/08/12/are-pure-essential-oils-good-or-bad-for-you/

Hmmm. I'd cross-check some of the claims made in that article but it's fairly accurate in general.
>All non-fragrant plant oils add moisture and often a wonderful smoothness to skin and will have some antioxidant benefit. [...] many beauty “experts” herald argan oil as being loaded with fatty acids, but it’s actually low in fatty acids when compared to more common oils like hemp, corn or castor oil.

>However, castor oil just doesn’t sound very sexy, nor is there much of a story to attach—unlike Moroccan argan oil. Actually, anything sounds better with the word “Moroccan” attached to it. “Moroccan Root Canal”, “Moroccan Kidney Stone”—see, told you!

>You may find that aesthetically, certain oils work better for you than others—experiment to see what you prefer.

>Generally, the higher the saturated fat content of the oil’s source (like coconut) the heavier the oil is likely to feel.

Ok, fine, not using shampoo helps you retain natural oils that are stripped away when using shampoo. whatever. the problem is, in the real world, no one but a shut in beta could pull this off. People think it makes their hair thin because they have really oily hair and it clumps and is thinner.

People think it makes their hair fall out because they're not combing their hair, be it with their fingers or with a comb and so they notice the loose hairs.

Both of these are fixed by actually scrubbing your scalp with your fingers and water, and using product.

found a no poo alternative I'm willing to try, yay!

> Take a quarter cup of liquid castile soap
( Dr. Bronner's), add one-third cup of coconut milk, half a teaspoon of almond oil or olive oil (use one teaspoon of oil if you have dry hair), and 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil in it. Thoroughly shake the bottle in which you have combined these ingredients.

conditioner:
1 part water, acv (will incorporate plant oils and rose water in there once I get a good understanding of how much I need) rub it in for a few mins, rinse.

(people seem to recommend using acv at the very last step b/c it "closes the cuticle, allowing not much of the moisture from conditioner to be absorbed.")

This way I won't have to suffer through any bad smells/build up of debris/oil that's common with no poo.
gonna use dry 'poo to soak up any oil between washed.
