the trick is to conceptualize a fashionable haircut that CAN be put in a bun. If you're just shooting for a bun you'll frequently hate how your hair looks in the interim.

the part that's most time consuming is growing the back part of your hair out enough to incorporate it into the bun. there WILL be an awkward period where you can bun the top part of your hair and the back will still be hanging down your neck - pic related.

Work with your haircutter to make sure you'll be able to do a partial manbun while you're growing the back outl

my hair grows pretty fast. Went from HY to manbun in like 4-5 months. The first 3-4 months sucked cause it was basically beanie every day. Only the past month have I been able to bun up without stray hairs and such.

I haven't gotten a haircut the entire time so my hair is waaaaay to thick and I need to get it layered soon.

you're probably seeing the shaved sides bun some people do with their hy because an all over bun takes a solid 6-9 months to get and people just arent dedicated enough to have shit hair for half a year.
