Wouldn't the convenience factor go to the messenger though? It's much easier to access things, as opposed to a backpack where you would basically take it off, move it in front of you, and take things/put things in. I don't know, just my two cents on it.

I use a messenger bag if I'm only carrying a notepad or something and a backpack if I'm carrying textbooks or chunkier stuff.

messenger bag is better for when you've only got a couple of things to carry, i.e. umbrella, water bottle, etc

backpack for carrying things of substance

both look good in different outfits

ya but theres only support on one shoulder so you cant carry as much around and sometime the messenger bag gets in the way of things moreso than a backpack would

I feel like if you're wearing it correctly, wear it's tight to your back it shouldn't get in the way as much. I bike a lot, so I much prefer a messenger bag.

True, there's many ways you can wear one. But if a backpack is your thing then cool. You can't really deny that a backpack can carry more anyways.
