Try Pointer footwear maybe? Though I don't know if they'll have any smooth black leather in their SS collection. They usually run around $100 though. I'd even suggest buying a pair of Clark's desert london derbies before buying anything Clae though, the leather is so bad and the design clunky, in a bad way.

You could also search around for some mildly used black derbies of better quality with $150~, most of the time the sole is where the real damage is - and if you're dead set on a white wedge sole, you can just get them resoled with a christie for maybe $50~ at a good cobbler, so still under $220.

They look like the sole is glued on. This means that once the soles wear out, it is going to be rather difficult to get them resoled (if it is possible to resole them at all). Those soles are definitely glued on. Unless you maintain them religiously with shoe trees and store them in a place with strong humidity control, they'll go alligator on you in a year. Unless you can afford to routinely throw out $700 on a regular basis, look for something that can be restored.

If you absolutely have to have them and want them to last even through often wear - have a cobbler put on a very thin leather outsole from the start. When you start to wear through that, a cobbler can chemically separate the glue and put another one on - mostly preserving your original sole.

The edge of the sole is flush with the upper. A goodyear welted (sewn on) sole is slightly wider than the upper and the stitching can be seen. For $700, you can get yourself a really nice pair of shell cordovan slip-ons. Horse leather is more wear-resistant than calf leather, so it will age better.

Being a manlet sucks because you can't do goof.

Basically you need to get your proportions correct 100% of the time 40/60, no room for play ever, with the exception MAYBE of wearing boots, but even that needs to be done with care.

As for High-tops, you can do SLIM ones, like chuck highs, that won't break up you silhouette, same thing as Chelsea boots kinda.

These are easily my favorite athletic shoes ever and my most /fa/ running shoes in my collection. Super comfortable, the mesh keeps the shoe cool, and also a very very good running shoe if you actually use it for that. All the colorways are pretty nice too though it's a shame Nike stopped making them.

They came out in Spring 2012 so you can still find a ton of them online, and I've seen a few in the Nike Factory Store I live by recently.
