Fabric trade shows, you'd be hard pressed to find actual tech fabric in small yardage unless you live near a plant that makes it allowing you to pick up scraps.

i thought techware fabric was privately supplied

Just have a quick search, trade shows are happening in every somewhat larger city and most of the time you can get a pass quite easily if you're being a bit sneaky about it. If you go to one and find a fabric you like talk to the reps and see if you can strike a deal, even if you have to buy a larger amount of fabric you might consider just selling extra yardage off since you might even strike a profit from that if you know what you're doing.

Yeah, surely you could, but people on here tend to not think through what it means to actually run a business, often lack the skills and determination (mostly determination), they're just latching onto it cause they find the idea "cool", it's really a huge investment to undertake unless you just want to make some edgy graphic tees with monochrome prints.
You'll need equipment, fabrics, small goods like zippers, buttons, obviously fabric, dress forms and most of all, decent designs.
Not to put anyone here down but pretty much all sketches I see on here are just awfully derivative of the more commonly mentioned brands around; lacking any identity that the designer could have integrated into his garment designs.

Travel? Maybe look for fabric plants in your vicinity, if there are any they will most likely do some cool stuff since high tech fabrics are pretty much the only way such companies can still make a profit due to the highly competitive field unless they are some sort of industry giant.

I don,t want to print horrible graphic tees. Also, I laugh all the time when I see all the sketches on /fa/, I'm studying fine arts at uni and I want to incorporate my view into clothing. I know it's a huge investisement if i want to starting an actual business.
