Which one should I go for /fa/?

The Austrian M65 Parka or the German Flecktarn Parka?

or should I get both?

>> No.7794355

If you can, definitely get both.

>> No.7794362

Austrian parka looks pretty okay and ordinary in person, a few of my old classmates went to Bundesheer after school and it looks pretty gud.

Not sure how it looks paired with normal clothing though

>> No.7794370

>>7794355
Yeah, the flecktarn one is only like $17 something and the M65 is about $24 something.

Shipping them both compared to only one adds like 50 cents to the shipping.

So I'm really torn. I live in Louisiana, so it will be getting warmer soon, but the flecktarn one isn't lined, so it would be pretty good for all of this rain and I wouldn't get too hot.

The M65, though, is a bit more plain and ordinary as >>7794362 says. Thus it would be a better all around piece, I feel.

I'M JUST SO TORN!

bro they are literally cheap as shit jackets and they both look good, cop both now, due to the shipping cost anyway you wont want to cop them separately

Alright, will do.

If you want them too I'm getting them from a site run by a dude on /k/.

Bundesheer reporting in, the modern stuff is utter shit. Glad all my paternal ancestors were in there so I have some stuff laying about.

M65 so much more neutral and versatile IMO.

But then again Ive never really liked camouflage styled clothing, much harder to carry off without looking like some kind of hunter/fisher.

>much harder to carry off without looking like some kind of hunter/fisher.

Yeah, that's my only thing. I don't like camo clothing at all, but this is a unique pattern, I feel. I'm gonna go with both. Worst case scenario is that I'm out $17 and I could probably sell it to somebody for $10 or maybe even $20. :D

The modern Feldstiefel is such utter shit, I got brand new ones when I joined and the whole thing is falling apart already, leather is some thin, yet hard, really plastic looking shit, loose threads hanging out everywhere, sole stitching looks like it has been done by a chimpanzee. The pants are some awful synthetic/cotton blend, thin as paper. Really glad the winter has been mild so far, I'd prolly have frozen to death otherwise.

You're in Vienna, right? I'm moving there this fall, anything to prepare a misguided alpine twat?

>> No.7794444

Damn, what's with all of these Austrians on /fa/?

>> No.7794457

>>7794383
wait is that ran by the dude who runs nugget enterprises?

>> No.7794465

Dude who owns both reporting in. Austrian M-65 is made from a great material (apparently treated to be silent when it brushes together), but it's deceptively thin and baggy as all shit, especially in the arms.
The Flektarn parka is a lot more 'dramatic', with a sizeable hood, snap pockets, dangling drawstring cords at the waist and german flags on the shoulders, plus the length looks excellent on a tall and lean frame.
I'd say it's worth it to get both, the M-65 for more layered outfits and the Flektarn for simpler ones.

Not sketchy at all.

Plenty of people have gotten their orders, but it sometimes takes him a while to get shipped. Just email him if you're not sure if it's gotten shipped.

What are the differences between the Austrian and American M65s?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the best field jacket around is the French F1. There's no better pocketing for actual use than zip Napoleon pockets, it's got a cleaner, less aggressive look with more in common with civilian garments, and it's much less laden with cultural baggage outside of France.

There's also the F2, which changes the fabric from cotton herringbone to a more durable cotton sateen, drops the abdominal packets, and is available in camouflage or OD. And Acronym did a version in cotton-faced Schoeller WB400, the CH-J3B.

The only real downside to any of them that I can see is that they don't have hoods.

Pic related, clearest view of the actual issue jacket I could find online.

In actual service. You can see why they deleted the lower pockets on the F2, for the same reason a lot of alpine clothing omits them.

I'm kind of speccing out a DIY-upgraded version of an F2 involving a black overdye and adding webbing at the waist, but I can't find any pouches that'd make good handwarmers, which is mostly what I want it for.

I like woodwood and then there's your usual fast fashion stuff like cos, H&M, zara.

Innere Stadt does have a Y-3 store though
A friend of mine visits a bunch of hipster vintage stores at Neubaugasse like Bootik 54 or something frequently but I've been there like once and it's mostly irredeemable shit unless you really really like 90s running jackets

I'd say Vienna is a lot more tolerant, but I guess you'd even be laffed at for wearing yohji anywhere, provided there are people dumb enough to laugh at clothes

well they're designed to be the outermost shell that can fit a bunch of equipment underneath plus germans are pretty stocky/fat so their clothing is cut pretty generously.

>> No.7795400

>>7795378
If they're surplus they were just laying around in a warehouse for some time until the army decided to auction them off, some armies sell off the used stuff after it has been cleaned and washed. Out here most of the stuff you get when you join has been worn before and put through the washing machine once and gets handed out to you, it's not ideal but money don't grow on trees.

>> No.7795410

>>7795378
It's a mix of both. Some surplus was never issued and some was.

The M65 I got was from a batch that included some used and some never issued, but they were all in great shape, though.

I'm sure either one would fit fine, but I'd rather my parka be a bit too long than too short.
