I did this to my wall (dif poster) what I did was using masking tape to make the design and paint over it, that way the design makes itself after i take off the tape
do something similar, that will create your desired effect
now that you find something that will be uniform in size, resistant to the paint you will be putting on the shoes, and that'll make it last
will be hard, so if you paint, try to do it various times.

if they don't hit full black, I'm fine with a dark dark brown
otherwise I'll try to resell them, the conditions fine and they're popular enough to sell for at least $120 used.

all in all, this seems like a really cheap diy so if nothing was gained, at least nothing was lost. i'd say it was a pretty solid learning opportunity for all of us though.

Used a sewing machine to make new outseams.

step by step:
>turn jeans inside out
>lay pair of pants with a nice fit on top, aligning outer edges
>place pins in jeans at the inseams of the other pants (remember jeans are inside-out so this is actually narrowing the outseams of the jeans)
>try on
>use sewing machine along the path of the pins
>cut excess fabric, turn inside out

video that I somewhat followed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5x33A-AO-8

advantages: permanent, can customize to fit own leg shape

disadvantages: a bitch to put on and take off, I made em tight at the cuff and have to do some serious fiddling to get them over my ankles

I did these myself. I like how they came out a lot. From old beat up cps.

These are great man

I was also wanting to do something similar but I don't know if I can justify shelling out the cash for some CPs. I got some JCP GATs but returned them because the toe looks boxy and shitty

Any ideas for a different sneaker to do this with? I'd like to do white, off-white, or grey, looking to spend $100 or less. Also not sure I wanna try my luck with the GATs that are from that dude in Germany on Grailed

I have a question. If you ever need to tie your laces or lace them up again, won't the paint get in the way?

I got them from the same guy, and they were pristine. The only problem is that they're a bit overpriced. (also, get different laces.)

I was never a fan of paint splatters, but they look fairly well done.

I used acrylic paint and old toothbrushes actually. (too lazy to get real paintbrushes)

Practices on other shit first like some old beat up chucks. It's really easy; just dabbed some painted on the brush and then fling it. I have 0 artistic ability and it turned out well. Do a practice run first though
