Can anyone get a HY? My hair is just strange, kind of wavy but sometimes straight, it's just impossible to style correctly and whenever I ask the barber for a "short back and sides", it doesn't look anything like an HY because the front looks retarded and too short.

Could anyone tell me what I could do?
How long should I let my hair grow until I cut them? I want a really long front with the short sides, a bit like pic related, but I need my hair to be straighter. Do you guys use any products in particular that help make your hair more tame?

You have to really emphasize that the length of your bangs/fringe should be kept and only thinned/layered if you desire it.

well combing yoru hair the way you want it over time will make it fall that way.

also the trick is to have the front long and the top scissor cut so it gradually increases in length at the front.

so instead of having the top the same length the bangs are the longest part and the middle-to back is pretty short

I tell them to shave the back and sides to a 3 and leave the top long, so pretty much a HY. Right now the front of my hair comes down to the tip of my nose. My hair is thick so sometimes I ask them to use thinning shears to make it more manageable.

I used to use American crew which is a light hold

You can get different hold strengths but AC is only light afaik. Id just search the internet for advice, I use AC fibre putty nowadays for matte look.

Guys, jesus. If the barber is always cutting the front too short, tell them NOT TO CUT THE FRONT AT ALL.

Secondarily, go to a higher end salon where they know what the fuck they are doing. Tell them you want short back and sides and you want the top tapered to the fringe, which you want to remain X length (inches or to my nose or whatever).

Finally, bring a pic for an example of what you're going for.

At the moment I have some kind of overgrown undercut which looks like shit and I don't use any hair products.

Honestly, I think haircut is the most important part of a persons appearance - it has a crazy amount of impact on how a person looks. A good/bad hair cut can accentuate good/bad features on the face, or head shape.

Of course, a person with an attractive face will still be attractive, but if you have a bad haircut, it can make it harder for people to see that.
