I do and I have a blast doing it. All it takes is a good eye and knowing what you actually need and MOST importantly knowing when to say 'No'

Here are some tricks:

-Hold Shirts and Sweaters up to the light to see where it might have holes and/or to see how hard it's been worn in.
-Aim for fit first THEN style, that XXL Burberry coat you stumbled on (as awesome as it seems) may not work for you, that being said..
-A tailor and do wonders for small repairs and alterations to get that custom fit to make it look perfect, but that also being said.
-A tailor is not a miracle worker, trying to get that size 42L jacket down to a 40R is possible but you would be spending so much and the pockets would look all fucked up that you'd be better off buying a brand new jacket. Just move on.
-Don't buy used underwear...have some self respect.
-If those "leather" shoes seem really shiny for being on the thrift store shelf for 4+ weeks they're probably not leather.
-Speaking about shoes, do your best to clean the inside as well as the outside of the shoe, no sense in catching athletes foot.
-Keep in mind that small holes can easily be repaired without being noticeable, you can also ask for a discount (yes even goodwill will discount damage items to move them) but don't be a dick about it.
-Some stains will NEVER come out, if you see a great shirt with a stain you are taking a gamble. This goes for pit stains as well as yellow collars.
-Try to go in with specific items in mind instead of buying whatever catches your fancy. This is a great change to BUILD you wardrobe
-Take a look at the location of where your thrift/consighnment store is locate, is it in the middle of a rundown neighborhood well then don't expect APC jeans or Tom Ford jackets on the racks.

-WASH EVERYTHING AND WASH IT HOT! You don't want to bring bed bugs home now do you? Also take care of shoes to extend their life span (saddle soap, water proofing, shoe polish, etc.)

>> No.7595917

>>7595211 I used to work at a goodwill. I don't know where you go, but it was strict policy that we did not negotiate or adjust prices down from the sticker. Maaaaybe if it was something we might have overlooked, but most of the time the shittiness of the product was factored into the price. (though often they would get a little inflated to meet quotas) We do pull shit that has been sitting on the shelves for a long time though and throw it away/change the price. Goodwill has a very decentralized structure, so a lot of things depend on your location.

I don't know if there is any hierachy to them since they are very dependent on their physical location and the people who frequent them. In my area (Boston) there's a range from high end consignment stores to bargain basement stores where they sell clothing by the pound.

It's from justsecond.de, but I'm afraid I think they only deliver in Germany or maybe Europe, but I they might also have an ebay store.
