Anyone here experienced with watches? My grandpa recently found one of his old watches from the 70s and was curious of what it might be worth nowadays. It's amazing that it actually still works. Battery is running good.

Says at the top of the head:
Constellation
AUTOMATIC

And at the bottom of the head:
OMEGA
CHRONOMETER
OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED

On the band:
14K G.F.
Stainless Steel hinge
OMEGA

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks /fa/

Whoa. Yeah, at that point you might have issues getting straps small enough. Thinking about getting my first watch here. Is a Seiko 5 a good choice for a 19 years old? I was also considering an Orient Mako but the metal strap (or is it called a bracelet? I don't know much about the correct terms) seems like a bit too much for someone my age. I read the sticky, but I'm not sure about getting a brand that many people associate with Timex.

I also kinda like the Bulova Precisionist but there's something about it I don't like though I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

Or should I wait and get something more expensive later on? I definitely want an automatic watch, or something smooth like the Bulova.

Jeweller here, it's quite a rare Constellation these days and reasonably sought after. As it stands you could probably get £3-400 but I would recommend going to a good independent jeweller, have it serviced, polished and the glass replaced. It will come out looking new and should cost approx £250-300 but will be worth about £6-700 and look great.

i used to flip vintage watches.

>Battery is running good
there is no battery.

if there has been years between adjustments that watch probably needs servicing to be wearable $100+ parts, from a low res pic i can tell it needs a new crystal, and a good polishing $100-150 service + parts

the band is 14k gold plated but thick (GF = gold filled) with a stainless clasp

get the band electrosonically cleaned and sell it as vintage piece omega replacement band you my get $50-100 for it to pay for the servicing

i generlly would pass on watches in this condition, and i had a cartier tank with shattered crystal and a movement overhaul

vintage omegas generally sell between 50 and $600

you do not have a $600 example even with the services, you're missing quite a few parts/boxes/manuals/uthentication paper work

>i can make it a $600 watch?
nah, maybe with $1200 into it, but it's going to have alot of aftermarket on it
