I would disagree. they have some of the better overall devices on the market but I wouldn't call any of them the best and at most they're only "good" in any specific category, not anything really spectacular.
Their real strength is in overall presentation. They seem high quality on the outside, have decent enough internals to power any phones you'd use on the go, and have a nice, clean UI.

I have an HTC One as my EDC and a GS4 for when I'm doing something dangerous, both are great
don't bother buying any Windows phone out rn, they look great but the UI is shit to work with for long periods of time

I just don't see what's better. All Android and Windows phones are plagued by something. HTC One has a terrible camera, GS4 has terrible software and feels like shit in the hand. Windows phones have no apps.

If you are getting an Android phone look at the Nexus 5 or Moto X. Both will have the newest updates super quick, both have pretty good cameras, and both have pretty good build quality.

Sigh. This is not /fa/ based.
HTC phones will not update their Android after a year. Samsung will, but six months after the latest version of Android is released. Motorola is similar to Samsung. Nexus-branded phones get the updates on day one, and are updated forever.

The Nexus 5 is a pretty awesome phone, and I would recommend it if you want to use Android. If you want an iPhone, buy that.

Don't bother with Windows Phone.

The Thinkpad x1 carbon is pretty /fa/. I'd also give the Chrombook Pixel my vote, no logos on the front, small radius for the corners, minimal design, just beautiful.
