God dammit /fa/,
I just read this boards sticky and I think I might be guilty of overdressing.
I am an 18 year old college student whose wardrobe consists of button-ups the bulk of which are in fact oxfords, chinos, cardigans, and boat shoes.
I have never been told I'm overdressed. I'm always told I dress nice and it fits who I am.
I don't always wear what I think is "classy" I do wear t-shirts and shorts occasionally.
I just don't know anymore /fa/.
I've thought I was always pretty fashionable but I guess I'm not.
How do I fix this? Or am I just being an insecure little faggot because of some sticky on an image board ran by deluded faggots?
Pic related, it's the shirt I wore today although I rolled the sleeves up.

>> No.7345580

You are being a little insecure.
Overreacting a bit I think.

>> No.7345581

dude if you're comfortable with what you wear then that's all that matters

also it varies from campus to campus. My college fucking sucks dick when it comes to fashion, so if I wore anything like that, I'd be a bit out of place in some classes.

you're being insecure and this board is run by faggots but they're not deluded
you will learn here but in turn will lose time and money
your wardrobe sounds tryhard and what we call "dad-core" which means you dress like a dad
you're 18 so dress your age and dress to the occasion
just lurk here, dont listen to anyone in this thread trying to give advice, lurk and figure out for yourself whats right and whats wrong

This is my first time on this board.
I frequent /sci/ and /fit/
It has never occurred to me that I dress like a dad.
I don't know maybe I'm overreacting a little.

>> No.7345625

only if you're wearing cheap poorly fitting shit.
an oxford and chinos is not overdressed for college, fuck anyone who says otherwise
if you post a pic we can tell you if you're doing it right or not

I don't have any full body pictures sadly and don't have a large enough mirror.
I make sure all my shit fits correctly though.
Could one of you post a picture of what would be considered dad-core?

people on /fa/ call people who wear nice clothes tryhards or dadcore because they know they look like skinnyfat lumps of shit in their clingy designer clothes.

would you take advice from this guy?

Nah, you're not overreacting...DAD.

In all seriousness, the most important aspect of fashion to me, and in the way I perceive other people trying to dress nice, is whether or not someone's look seems natural. If people compliment you and say it works, and you feel like it works, then you're fine. It's when would-be /fa/ggots quite literally try too hard that it all falls apart, because then they're forcing it. As with anything, fashion included, just go gradually and if you want to introduce new elements to your style, do it over time.

I make it sound like a science, but it's not, as you've found. Dress how you like, and if it works, and you'll know if it works, then congrats, you've done it!

>> No.7345649

No one cares but /fa/... And it's impossible to make /fa/ happy. Make sure your stuff fits, lurk for inspiration, don't listen to any stylistic advice anyone on the Internet gives, and you're golden.

These. OCBDs and chinos aren't "over-dressing". It's just casual/prep clothing. You'd be over-dressing if you were wearing suits to class every day. You sound like you dress pretty standard.

I don't own a chambray shirt and I didn't even know those brands existed until just now.
I'm guessing those make up a typical dadcore tryhard wardrobe?

as long as youre happy and comfortable with what you wear dude

you don't need a mirror. just set the camera up away from you. posting a pic is the best way

If it fits, looks good, and generally isn't trash, then it's prep/menswear/etc. If it doesn't fit, looks bad, and is trash, it's MFA-tier/dadcore. That's the major distinction really.
