I read the sticky.

There's no way I'm paying 100$ for a fucking cardigan. If I buy cheaper clothes that look exactly the same, is it ok? Are expensive brands really the much better that they warrant paying 5 times the price?

Well, if you want to look reasonably fashionable, go ahead and head your way to /r/mfa.

People here pay for the hype, philosophy,to support the designer (or else where do you think Zara's designs will come from??), quality, and other different reasons.

Kind of like if I can hang a fake Mona Lisa on my wall (or whatever expensive painting), does it mean the same as the real one? Maybe, but that depends on your personal beliefs.

>If I buy cheaper clothes that look exactly the same, is it ok?
Yes of course, but I very highly doubt that will be the case. Maybe in the image online it'll look the same, but once you see how it fits and feels and looks IRL, I have always found it's better to shell out on the more expensive version (only to a certain point, of course); unless you're happy looking sub-par you'll end up unsatisfied and buy something else and itll be a waste of money: better to buy nice than buy twice.

Look OP, I can see where you're coming from.

Is some of the upper echelon of luxury and designer clothing bullshit and markup and the law of diminishing returns? Yes.

But if you're talking about the sub 100 dollar range of mall stuff as compared to slightly more expensive 150 dollar range stuff? The difference is huge. Just huge. You think they look the same. But they're not the same. Even if you're not going to get designer or luxury stuff, at least get durable stuff. Because that 40 dollar cardigan from H&M? It's absolute shit. It will look like GARBAGE after a single wash.

If you absolutely must buy cheap, go super extremely cheap. Sale-rack old navy shirts for 12 dollars. Wear them for two washes and then throw them the fuck away.

We're not making this shit up. That price range is disposable clothing.

That's fine, so long as you make a point of disposing of your used clothing and are okay with recurring cost.

>always wearing brand new clothing and throwing it away instead of washing it

the FRESHEST of fits

>> No.7343175

Sort of on the subject but not really - the sticky is so outdated someone really needs to sort it out and make a full list of decent stores/brands so that our newfriends can stop making 50 threads a day asking if Zara is /fa/ and if you really need to spend £60 on a cardigan.

To the OP it really depends what you're aiming for obviously if you wanna do a successful goth ninja you will have to pay more than $100 for a cardigan but if you're going for sth simple and more traditional then there are some lower end recommended stores. Designers/brands/hype are important on /fa/ but in certain looks it's more about the fit/quality which you still can buy for less than $100 i suppose but you will have a hard time looking for stuff in that price range.

get them on sale or a reasonable compromise. yes, some of the prices are way too expensive to be reasonable (seen a sweater for over a thousand dollars once) but you should also have a lower limit - 20 bucks would definitely be not enough to expect good quality in a sweater either.

I go by the following rules:
>at least 50$ for pants and pullovers
>at least 15-20$ for a t-shirt
>don't get me started on suits or shoes
albeit I have also seen quality clothing for a fraction of these prices. they're rather rare though, you need to get a feel for it instead of just buying what's inexpensive.
