any jacket made with gore-tex is also required to have taped seams as part of their whole licensing deal, so look for cheap gore-tex (from skiing or snowboarding brands.)

it's not like it's a secret dude. 99% of the information reposted here by ppl is also available to you, overwhelmingly in electronic form. go to your local (university) library and look at all the huge old x designer at the victoria & albert coffee table books ... or u could just read all the old sz designer threads, and follow the citations. that's a good place to start and i really don't have the time to write out some guide (and probably shouldn't be because i still don't have any of my own knowledge on anything.) save all the pictures you like. make the time to go to a great store and handle some pieces irl next time you go on vacation to a major city. i dunno what else to say: no one is trying to force u out
