Poppunk (2000-2004)
Emo (2004-2007)
Scene (2007-2010)
MustacheAdventureTimeHipster(2010-2013)

Also the transition of hip-hop
Real Shit -> Dirty South -> House/Club.
There's also that new Kanye/A$AP Mob/TylerTC style that's been around for a couple years.

But that's in relation to music, which has a pretty big influence on mainstream/fast fashion.

Also tumblr / any internet shit.

This decade is actually really fucking awesome so far.
Because of the internet, content is king. Sure lots of Pop music and fashion sucks, but since "the hipster" has been accepted, it is socially more acceptable to like something more obscure. People are starting to listen to, watch and wear whatever they like. For now anyways.

We live in good times my friends.

You're confusing subcultures and trends. Maybe back when goth ninja wasn't as popular it could have been considered a subculture - when you look at sites like SZ you see a lot of those people have common interests like art fashion etc. but now it's just a trend.
