I adore Mies but stop pretending anybody could live in the Farnsworth house. Taking the climating and flood problems it had apart, which are bridgeable, I bet nobody could spend a life there and stay sane.

We are human, and sometimes we need privacy and/or warm, close spaces where we can feel comfy and secure, even if you don't realise right now. Sure we need open spaces too, but not less than closed ones. A midterm where you dispose both of them is the best.

I'd run to the Tugendhat house even when I think Farnsworth is much prettier.

Farnsworth herself spent a lot of time there over the 40 years she owned it, I'm sure it's doable. If you remove the fame element, it's a house in a very secluded location, although having the bed open to two corners of the house and only protected by curtains seems a little weird.

When I first saw it without knowing what it was I assumed that the bedroom / bathroom would be enclosed in the centre part, and then the outside would be living area. That's how I'd do it if I were making a similar home.

There's a hill near where I live (London) which only has houses which, the more I look at them, seem to be a direct scaled down copy of the Tugendhat villa. They look great, I'd love to see the inside.

If I remember well the center is a nucleus of services bathroom+kitchen.

I don't see the problem with not having the bedroom enclosed. But you should be able to choose when you want it to be fully open to the outside or when you'd prefer to have it closed via mobile panels, curtains, or whatever.

And you should be able to separate spaces within the house at please as well.

But if you want to include mobile panels and stuff you'd need a bit more of space, as the house might be too small for that.
