6937546 No.6937546[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

I'm about to pull the trigger on some high top black Raf velcros. They'll be my first actually designer purchase (unless you consider APC to be designer stuff).

I'd like to know beforehand if they're really worth the money.
They cost half a grand, which is a bit more expensive than CP Achilles, yet they have the same soles.

Can I really expect CP quality on the Rafs? Will the leather last really long, can I beat them up a little without stuff tearing apart?
Or should I rather cop CPs if I care about quality a lot?

Basically, are Raf Simons velcros worth the money for real, compared to other high quality shoes?

Pic semi related, I'll get them entirely black.

>> No.6937557

I only own one raf piece (the ombre jumper) but it's fantastic quality and I can't fault it at all
As for the shoes I don't really know what to tell you other than I would buy them in white as they age better imo
Plus don't buy them new
Deals pop up on sufu and the like all the time
User got his white ones for $200

>> No.6937560

The new ones are made in portugal so they won't be as great quality as old raf velcros are, but if you're that concerned, just get CPs if you want.

>> No.6937583

>>6937557
Can you really compare the shoes' quality to the jumper's? I mean can you assume that all Raf pieces are excellent based on that?
Not trying to call you out, btw, it's a genuine question.

>in white
I already own white shoes and I don't like it when I get dirt and shit on them.
Why would blacks age badly?

>don't buy them new
Are there really frequent good deals on the Internet?
What if they arrive and they're beat up?
Will I really lose money if I spend 500 dollars on new velcros?

>>6937560
I just want to know if the quality is equivalent to that of CPs since Achilles are said to last a decade.
I don't want to have to replace the velcros after a few years, I really want them to hold up. I'm a freshman in college, I'd like to still have them by the time I graduate.

Is the price/quality bad since I'm concerned about it?

Also I don't know how CPs size really.

I have inserts, which makes it more difficult to find shoes.
Usually, I size 42 (European). I tried Raf velcros in 43 with my inserts and they fit well (I had a bit of space left but it was comfortable).

no i dont own cps, i had a pair of achilles but i really didnt like how they looked so i sold them. but the vulnerable part is definitely the part of the hardware where the lower velcro comes through, you bend your foot when you walk so that part becomes creased and will eventually tear, but i think that takes several years

also the heel lining unless they fit extremely tightly.

but honestly if you want shoes that last a long time just get like red wing work boots, dont bother with sneakers if youre really worried about them lasting a lifetime.

I wear NBs atm and they hold up pretty well, I just want my Rafs to feel and hold considerably better than the NBs. Paying 400-500 bucks for shoes that feel like 100 bucks isn't what I want, at all.

I mean mine have lasted ~6 years with repairs, and might get to 8, so that is a good guess if youd like one.

but honestly i wouldnt recommend them to you because in terms of total longevity, almost any high end sneaker is not the right choice. if you want a better price to durability ratio i would definitely recommend you get a pair of new balance instead, or even a pair of vans. If you buy 370 euros worth of vans they will last way longer than one pair of rafs will.

but if youre buying for the design, that is a different matter entirely.

id probably say a used pair of carpe diem boots

ive seen them go for ~650 the leather is insanely high quality, and because of the very oldschool construction can basically be repaired easily almost endlessly and last a lifetime...its really easy to replace the heel, and the sole etc, and if a stitch breaks after several years, any shoemaker can repair it easily etc.

the problem with the modern construction on lots of different shoes/boots etc is that its harder to mend
