I bought the system and found it seriously lacking, which is a pity as there's so much potential for the hardware. I carry a japanese gameboy micro on long flights with metroid, metal slug & golden sun. Nice battery life and a very minimal machine that takes no space whatsoever.

So much of those 3DS things is the downloaded software, and it's a real pain in the ass to replace that software if the thing goes missing. Nintendo won't give you your old software loadout back free of charge unless you file a police report and generally make a big to do about it. Or this is what I've heard from multiple people.
