Not sure what sort of color palette you'd want to work with, but I think it'd pair great with a natural colored wool shirt, that Nicholas K (IIRC) hoody you have, and either original color GATs or similar color NB trainers (thinking about how you talk about them seeming at home on a space station) or a very pale tan cloth combat boot.

Actually, I think that setup would look fine with just standard Flyknits as kind of an accent, too.

Just some thoughts.

These would be good, although they're maybe a touch too dark.

The idea is offsetting white with tans and creams, like offsetting black with greys. And think of the wool top as like a space telnyashka: blank color, unburdened by striped maritime history, but the same idea of a simple, functional wool crewman's shirt.

Hah, *your* instinct is getting better? I'll take the compliment.

I would do a white with a grey - think about the ultra-classic white dress shirt with grey dress slacks. But, on my end, sometimes I have to fight a tendency I don't quite get to just toss neutrals together.

>you want another color in the mix that's not black?

And I don't quite get it and want to fight it because I personally love relatively small but intense color accents set in neutrals. I get away with the thrown neutrals because I've got auburn hair with crazy bright natural highlights, but yeah.

>Do you ever get chills when you realize something key?

Oh, yeah. Or when I find a piece, or some knowledge about a fabric or something that just solves an aesthetic or practical problem with a fit, and somehow shows how well the universe clicks together if you just look at it straight, instead of through the received lens of the obvious, and apply some thought and direction.

Thanks for all your posts, too. These Lunarcore threads are some of the most interesting and stimulating on the board.

A/W 2014 everyone steals your concept and Lunarcore hits the runway? Rick gets the contract for Virgin Galactic uniforms?

Stop doing that. Bid in the last few seconds. It's less important if it's not a popular item, but still better.

Gotcha. I'm new to ebay, and I usually just 'buy it now'.
I've never had such specific needs before. It's a different world.

This guy says a lot of things (ask /p/ about him), so take him with a grain of salt, but this guide is generally on the money.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/ebay/

The funny thing about eBay bidding, which probably have realized already, is that you don't type in a bid. You type in a maximum bid, and it'll automatically raise it up to that authorized limit, but you'll actually pay the least you have to under that to win. The ostensible idea is that everyone is a rational actor who will make a sober assessment of their desire and finances, settle on an immutable number, and whoever pops up the biggest number wins. But they don't pay more than it takes to win.

In practice, of course, it works nothing like that, and eBay knows it, hence the transparency about the current winning bid and the ease of revising your bid upwards.

When you bid in advance of the auction's close, you advertise to everyone else in the game that someone else wants it, and it winds up driving the price up, because it becomes a game of one-upmanship by a few dollars here and there, and then some dumbass comes along who's bidding like the system actually works and punches in $200 for something that would've gone for around $50 if other people hadn't started working to one-up his stupidity. (Assume the item's actually worth, say, $150, in this example.)

The best way to do it is to "snipe:" punch in, on a stable Internet connection, the most you'd be willing to pay for the item, plus a few bucks random grease (like, something's worth $200 to you, bid $207.83 or something so you don't lose to someone else thinking $200 and punching in $204), in the last minute. Closer to close the better: the less time for someone to decide they want to beat you.

And when you're looking for stuff, you kind of have to ride searches for it to get deals.

Say you were trying to cop a pair of pod shorts (specificity actually helps) cheap. Once a day or a few days, go on, search for "pod shorts," specify you're looking for "buy it now" listings, and sort it from lowest to highest. Then specify you're looking for auctions, and check both "newly listed" (so you'll know what's out there) and "ending soonest," so you can see some hovering neglected somehow at $13.00 that you could get in on for, say, $50, between you and a couple other savvy people, who want it cheap but are willing to let it go.

And before you feel bad for the sellers, remember they're of course free to set a minimum bid or reserve price if they want. Most low volume individual sellers do, and it's the high volume professionals that throw stuff up with no minimums, that you can get deals from.

All the sneakers in the movie were PF Flyers altered by the wardrobe department. They had a large budget and plenty of other more militaristic options, but went with PF Flyers from a "supposed" preference by Ridley Scott. I know the sneakers in the movie were all PF Flyers, I don't know 100% about Ridley Scott being that specific, that's just a story another PA told me.

I've been looking through some of the objects these sellers are listing, and I can't decide if they're awesome or ridiculous.

"Pay $227 to have a flown Soyuz thermostat valve!"

On one hand, IT'S BEEN IN FUCKING SPACE. On the other hand, it's transparent vicarious shit, it's a thermostat valve for a thermostat you don't own, and it wasn't *really* in space, just inside a space capsule with regular old earth air.

That sort of dialog reaches its height, for me, with pic related: how cool would it be to hook your sound system up with an amplifier from Soyuz 7?

"What amplifier are you using, man?" "It's really cool. It was used for the radio on Soyuz 7. It's been in fucking space." "Really? Wow, that's cool. No wonder it sounds like shit, though. How much did you pay for it?" "695." "Dollars? Uh."

But I'm also seeing $35 heat shield fragments. That's cool. Don't know how you feel about accessories, but that could make for the ultimate lunarcore jewelry.
