It's an inch or almost an inch below chin level on the front. On my back it's a bit longer because I never bothered to cut it; I just grew it out of my short haircut.

make sure you have the last twit of your hairband ready on your knuckles, twist your hair with the other hand as much as possible, release hairband over knot.

Takes a bit of practise but before you know it you'll be doing it as quickly as a 15 year old girl going to a dance lesson.

Products wise, strong mousse before blow drying to add texture, don't brush your hair when you do it just rake it back with wide spread fingers.

I'm in the same boat m8. I want a samurai bun but problem is I had a hy 1 year ago. That means my hair haven't the same length everywhere.
The hair on the top would be long enough for the bun, but the sides are too short.

Just be patient if your hair aren't long enough yet.

attempt bun or knot

i have curly hair so instead of bunning it and wrapping my hair in i just leave it out and pull it all through the end.
it kind of just looks like a huge weird ocotpus is sitting on my crown but it's easy and i really like it

I cant tie the bun tight enough - I get it to a ponytail, and then put an elastic hair band around it. After that I try and fold the tail and wrap the band around again, but by then the rest of my hair comes loose.

I can ocassionally get it to stay in place long enough to bun if I twist the fuck out it when its at the ponytail stage, but it still isn't tight enough to stay in place once its tied - slowly the rest of my hair kind of puffs out from around the tie.

I'd rather not post a photo - but for reference - my natural hair is a similar length, shape, and style to Grohl here.
