Found something that I want. Rather than buy it straight away, I plan to put away a hundred bucks a week towards it, and if it's still there when I'm finished and I still want it then I'll get it. Antique shop has it priced at $595, but I have no idea how much it's worth in the average market. Presumably I could get it for less. Anybody know about such things? It isn't really a matter of how much I'm willing to pay for it; I only want to pay as little as possible.

When I'm at antique shops or flea markets, I always try to bargain. But I always try to bargain fairly, I don't throw around low ball offers. If you make a low ball offer, they're not going to take you seriously.

Grow some balls, get out there, and just ask. The worst they can do is say, "No".

If it's priced at $600, try to make an offer for $400, and meet midway at $500.

The leather has seen better days and is pretty rough on the arms, but I'm not super concerned about that. It doesn't have any macroscopic tears. The structure is all curved ply. The tag said "1970s Scandinavian styling" or some such ambiguous thing. It's held together with Allen screws, though, and I wasn't sure how recent an invention those were.
