vans suck for skating in. the side rubber rips apart like tissue paper, they're all about vulcanizing so they're super fucking thin, which means arch bruises, the insoles are shit thin too so heel bruises.

es edgars were my favorite. durable suede (always buy suede, it'll last the longest) with thick soles and insoles, and basically a steel toebox. hard to find now that es has been closed. i copped a bunch off ebay when it went down.

short of that, buy some emericas (same company as es and etnies) that are suede, or some lakais.
