Hey /fa/, what's the most functional, durable, yet /fa/ backpack you can think of? I'm thinking of glob-trotting in the next few months (have saved up about $15,000 or so) and will need something that fits that description.

Is pic related /fa/?

OP here, I'd like to keep the budget below $500 pls.

If you're going globe-trotting/backpacking you really need something bigger and more comfortable.
It should be functional and fit your back, otherwise you'll have a really shitty time.
Go to a proper wilderness camping store and try on a couple of different ones.
How it looks is way down on the list for what you should look for, just as it is with functional boots etc.

Oh should note that I will be staying at hotels, not disgusting backpacker hostels.

This alone makes me concerned that you're not prepared for world travel.

I was a comfortable trip for now, and when I'm confident, I'll fuck around in hostels. I'll be traveling by myself for the most part, but will be meeting up with friends who live overseas now and then

Going by yourself is even more incentive for staying in a hostel. You'll end up like Bill Murray in Lost in Translation just sitting at the bar the whole time.

Backpacks aren't really /fa/. Just go for pure practicality. If you're trying to do some sort of "fashionable early 60's bachelor on holiday" thing, then it's quite simple:

1. Buy a leather suitcase. The kind that closes with belts. You find them in thrift shops for like, two bucks.

2. Wash that motherfucker.

3. Stick some clothes in it.

4. Book yourself into a hotel somewhere beachy for the weekend. Don't pick one of those huge towering hotels, you want one that's nice and close to the ground. Something that really lets you FEEL that you're at the place you're at.

5. Read a novel or two on your balcony, walk along the beach, eat scrambled eggs, drink whiskey.

Enjoy your holiday!

This.

Unfortunately OP is going around the world, so just a leather suitcase wont do it for him.
It could work but ye
