The difference is that with vans, converse, etc, you buy them cheap and ready to fuck up and get dirty. That's part of the aesthetic.

With boots, only quality leather will really last you a long time and not make the boot look like shit after a few wears. Poor leather will begin to crease very hard and eventually crack. You can throw Saphir or Venetian cream at it and it won't do shit. Cheap leather is cheap.

Just handle a pair of iron rangers, as basic as work boots get, and you can start telling the difference.

Just trying to help out shoe newbies here. With shoes, you always buy high quality, less quantity. You can skimp out with anything else, but for shoes (and outerwear) you gotta buy the good shit. It's just a better investment.

They have so much oil in them that they don't really require much care. Maybe a damp wipedown every now and then.

And yeah. They're not waterproof to the extent that cordovan is, but they're HIGHLY water resistant. I've gone out in many wet environments with them and been completely fine.
