Whether or not you like his clothes, is it really a problem if a designer dabbles in conceptual art? Whether or not anyone would ever wear glass slippers or a giant wooden boot, isn't there something to be said for realizing the absurd?
Why shouldn't the designer's studio aspire to the impractical? Why shouldn't it be a laboratory of the possible?
In any field of art we need people to push the boundaries, if only so that others may know where/what they are. I don't really care for Jackson Pollock or Mark Rothko, but I understand what they're getting at and why those things needed to be said by someone.

I think there's inherent value in creating
statements or works of art that force us to think about things in a new way for a little while. When I look at his Shark Gloves, for instance, I don't see a garment so much as a realized thought experiment. A work of conceptual art. Sure it's essentially unwearable, but it made me think for a minute and that's a good thing.

On a similar note, we all know it's possible to make wooden boots, but last I checked only this Recht guy and some farmers in Friesland were actually doing it.
