Honestly have no idea about Citizen's mechanicals, sorry anon. That's quite a different look from the other watch so it'd be difficult to give recommendations, what's your price range? In the ~300-600 range you're looking at Tissot or Hamilton for autos, and those have disposable movement which, while functional and generally quite accurate, are practically non-serviceable and will generally have a lifespan of about a decade. Citizen's Eco-Drive stuff is great if you're into the look, though the *really* nice Citizens are generally well above this price point. Casio also has some nice upper end models around here. Seiko's cheap autos are overpriced and frankly I'm of the mind it's not worth getting a cheap automatic watch anyway. Sadly their solar quartz movement has been (anecdotally) highly unreliable as well, so they're really a brand I just avoid.

what i like most is aq4091 with black dial and similar watches from the citizen line as well, but not only are they over 2 grand, but they are also limited to japanese market, so there is no chance of seeing one in person and trying it on.
the cheaper lookalike, the nb1050 which is around 300-500$ comes with automatic movement instead of tried and ture ecodrive that is available in even cheaper models, but i'd overlook even this flaw, but they limited it to japan as well

i've only ever seen good looking citizen watches in pictures, what i've seen in person are only the monstrosities. what the hell are they thinking?

the only ecodrive that i kind of like is pic related, but then again, this one is sub 200$, what kind of quality can i expect from it? it is also slightly too large.

Oh to the last part, the cheaper Citizen movements are fine from what I know, they have that one field watch I've seen in person and it's a solid watch at only $100 or so. Only didn't get it because it's too small for my tree trunk wrists. On the other hand I'd stay away from their small bezeled 42mm stuff unless you have truly enormous arms though, it'll look silly as the dials are fuckhuge

It's not a proper automaton but their hands move as the watch ticks (the hand were probably made of paper machier and are sadly gone now). They are pointing at a calighrapy that says "Blessing". There are also motives of doves (?) and the endless knot.
The case is silver and is quite heavy for the period.
