It's pretty obvious a lot of shitting on Seiko is coping about them being Japanese. Not to say that the 6R shouldn't be regulated better, or that they shouldn't improve their bracelets. I've had a basic ass Mudman for nearly 20 years. I've changed the battery once. (If you never use the light, batteries last much longer than Casio estimates.) The strap has yet to wear out and shows no signs of cracking.

Important to note that, while today, we consider anything at 5Hz (36000 vph) or faster to be high-beat. 4Hz (28800 vph) was considered high-beat even into the 90s. 3Hz (21600 vph) was considered a normal beat rate post WW2 and is still pretty common in movements both cheap and expensive.

In terms of day-to-day accuracy, it doesn't actually mean all that much, it was mostly a marketing thing in the 60, which is also why companies by and large stopped screaming about their movement's beat rates.

This. Truthfully, they still make custom watches if you pay enough but, back then, they didn't have 'off the shelf' pieces. You'd go to one of their boutiques, look at case shapes, dial styles, hand styles, case sizes, materials, etc and pick a combination you liked, then Cartier built it for you.

That's the reason that no Cartier watches ever seemed to be discontinued. The Tank Normale, for example. It's rare not because a decision was made to stop producing them, but simply because no one ordered it.

The auto is fine for what it is but the watch is not meant to be expensive. It's a cheap, fun watch. Moreover, the original Seastar that the PRX is paying homage to was quartz with a sunburst dial. It's closer to the vintage watch.

What bugs me more is the fake tapisserie dial. It takes the PRX from being an homage to a watch in Tissot's own catalog to a weak APRO ripoff.
