Just be very careful because watches from that era are very easily Frankensteined. Parts were plentiful and Rolex did not control supply back then like they do now. So it may have all sorts of non-original parts.

Datejust.

Stop fixating on the Kuon. I'm sure it's the most expensive Credor you can afford, but unless it's an Eichi II or something at that level, you're wasting your money.
If you want one that bad, wait a couple years and you'll be able to snag one for 3k or 4k.

Some cases will be obvious. If the date code on the bracelet doesn't match the watch's date (easily ascertained via the serial number) then you know that's not a match. If the dial type or style or color wasn't available in that watch's year, that's a giveaway.
But in certain cases, you simply have to trust the seller. You can't know if the crystal or hairspring was replaced with a non-Rolex part.

But, of course, that's always the case when you're buying a vintage Rolex. Though, of course, newer Rolexes lack the charm of the older pieces.

If you're buying something a little newer like a six-digit DJ, a 116200 for example, then you're going to spend a little more, between 5-6k USD, but it's easier to find examples with boxes and papers. They're less likely to be tampered with and the seller will let you verify that the serial number of the case, movement, and documentation all match up. If he doesn't let you, walk, because then something's skeevy.

Funny enough, I bought the FF with part of the proceeds from selling my Submariner. It was a combination of being bored with the SubC, having a watch exactly like everyone else, plus not being able to wear it into the city without risking it being stolen.
I saw the FF in one of the Blancpain boutiques in Vegas and just loved the thinness of it, the elegant size, the way it wore more like an older Sub. The movement finishing and the 5-day power reserve didn't hurt either.

So when prices absolutely exploded during the pandemic I decided to strike while the iron was hot. Sold the Sub for enough that I was able to get what I originally paid PLUS the cost of the FF. That's a free watch.

It seems to happen that way actually...I don't have a rotation of watches, I just have a rotation of emotional weeks when I crave particular designs or aesthetic directions. Right now, the 0100 satisfies all cravings for an efficient, clean design that simply tells the time. You know what I mean?

You know, the more I see your watch, the more I think I should pick one up. Just another perfect design from Citizen..something that belongs in Blade Runner or Minority Report.

Do you have any new watches on the horizon, Fren?

Incredibly based my friend. Hope you have a fun, yet safe, night.

I fully understand your view on watch rotations. I never understood it either. Why force yourself to wear something you don't want to wear just because you have it?
You could pick one to serve a beater/drinking purpose, or as a travel watch. Gotta appreciate the care-free experience.

>Do you have any new watches on the horizon, Fren?
I'm having a hard time wanting new pieces at the moment. I am still very much satisfied with this one. I have been thinking about the AR1130 on a leather strap or maybe a cope 9f. I've still managed to contain my autism to coins.

Anyways, stay safe fren and have fun, you deserve it.

For this kind of writing, absolutely. Lots to plan, and the ideas are flowing pretty damn fast. I've been blessed with inspiration when inebriated, but only under specific circumstances. Thank goodness there is no one to disturb me. Don't worry though, it's always under control when I'm working. It's a...key that opens a gate, nothing more.

>>17915234
It's definitely safe; there is nothing to fear, and everything to gain for the moment. Soon the brainstorm stops, and then I get some rest.

Agreed about the care-free experience; that's why I enjoy having a stable of watches 'ready-to-go', but it's also why I no longer feel the draw to buy new ones. I hope everyone can reach this state one day too. As an odd wrench in the mix; the other day I was at the Rolex AD, and they had a few LH GMTs ready to be bought...I almost got one. I don't know man....they're just so dead on the wrist, but there was a part of me that was thinking that I should have at least one Rolex, just because of Rolex...and I do like that one more than other modern offerings. But...it doesn't sing. It was somewhat disappointing. Random thought.

Hmm...the AR would be great, as the 9f (don't think of it as a cope). They're just watches, and in the end, if it makes you smile when it's on your wrist, then it doesn't matter if it's a Seagull 1963 or a Roger Smith....the most important thing is if it makes you smile. Every watch I own was bought after years of contemplation, so I don't feel regrets...they all make me smile. I wish for the same for you if you expand your collection.

Be well, my Fren, and thank you for the good wishes. I send warm wishes to you too.

I recently rediscovered this variant, it's the first Weekdater that came out, and i'm starting to like it. Some of its design elements later got split between the 6206-8990 (the one i have, the lumed version) and the 6218-8970/8971. Some versions even had the 30 in 'water 30 proof' in blue.
The 6206 inherited the case and the text minus the applied gyro logo which is just printed on the 6206, and the star below the day, but lost the day window frame and got a new set of more blocky indices.
The 6218-8970 has the same shaped markers but they're all the same length, and the framed day window but got a new, sleeker case, and the 'Seikomatic' was moved above the day window and replaced with the current Seiko logo.
The 6218-8971 then lost the gyro logo and the little star under the day window.
That concludes today's Weekdater history lesson.

Not, it doesn't have a battery. The mainspring also doesn't send an "electrical charge".

The mainspring gets wound up by the rotor like in any automatic watch. It stores this mechanical energy. It transfers the energy through the gears to the "balance wheel". Only the "balance" aka glide wheel isn't controlled by an anchor escapement like a mechanical watch. Here's where the spring drive comes in.

There is a magnet in the glide wheel that moves around a coil. You can read up on Faraday's law. This produces a small electric current. This current is sent to the quartz which vibrates in a fixed frequency like any quartz watch and the integrated circuit uses this vibration to calculate the exact speed at which, again, the glide wheel should move. It controls the speed by an electromagnetic brake. The glide wheel therefore moves the hands at a constant speed.

To get back to the battery question: the energy is stored in the mainspring and therefore a spring drive watch doesn't need any battery or capacitor like normal quartz watches. That's the big advantage because the battery or capacitor in a quartz watch is usually the first thing that needs replacing.

You're right, of course. It still isn't as accurate as a HAQ. My guess would be that there are slight losses in accuracy because of the glide wheel and the gear system in comnparison to the stepping motor of a normal quartz watch. So it's kind of a tradeoff for the independence from batteries.

It's a nipple dial. You've been conditioned to expect stuff like a Rolex Sub's maxi dial with huge indices.

The idea behind the nipple dial is to improve legibility by having facets on the indices that catch light. The actual footprint of each of the hour markers is the same, but it looks smaller because a stepped and faceted ring instead of a lume plot.
The reasoning is that you only really need lume when it's pitch black. If there's any ambient light at all, the polished rings will catch it. FWIW, I've seen pics of that watch's lume shots and it still looks strong, as you'd expect from a 10k+ watch.

They are not popular. There's a reason every diver looks basically the same: consumers expect a dive watch to be as close as possible to the Submariner.
They are also more expensive to produce since it takes longer to finish each of the markers.

This is literally what Wilsdorf wanted. He never meant for Rolex to be a watch of the people. That's what he created Tooter for. Rolex was always meant to be luxury.
Because he couldn't compete with Patek and the like, he started marketing his watches much harder than anyone. They'd take innovations that others came up with, give it a new name, and market it as their own invention. It made them seem cutting-edge and high-tech.

Not really, no.
Rep bracelets are never as well machined as gen there's always one or two links that are too loose or bind.
The gen crown winds buttery smooth, reps are always crunchy because the factories don't clean the movements.
Rep bezels always have backplay that the gens don't have.
Reps with date functions are especially bad because they advance the quickset date by turning the crown in the wrong direction compared to the gen.

the intra matic chrono is a chunky boi. it's based on the 7753, and as such it's pretty thick. The rotor is heavy and you can hear/feel it spinning around when you swing your wrist a certain way. Its size limits when it can be worn--I avoid wearing when I know I'm going to have to do dextrous work with my hands and don't want to risk the watch getting in the way. So it's rare that I wear it to work as I can sometimes end up in the product lab and it's hard to predict when. The """""lume""""" is absolute garbage. I'm not even sure why they thought to include it. The dial color is fantastic and maybe not for everyone, but it's exactly what I thought it would be.

I've tried on a few other hamiltons at an AD. The jazzmaster they had felt too big for what it is. I would have preferred 37 or 38mm instead of 40mm. The open heart versions are visually appalling. The khaki field was alright but I would have wanted the titanium version (pic related).

I'm glad to hear that fren. I had a crazy week myself, ended up doing a shoot with the previous client's acquaintances. Turned out nice. How and why they have so much alcohol I'll never understand.. Need to chill for today, going out tomorrow again. Do you have any plans fren? Have you taken pics with a girl and the GS?

This is a great pic. The GS Whiny Bitch looks so much better in natural light. That's the case with most textured dials.

kek. Sounds like a crazy week but in a good way. I am chilling today too, I have to wake up early tomorrow sadly.
A girl is coming over later tonight. Maybe I'll take some with the GS if she wants to model again.
>Kino Shots
Well if that praise is coming from the master himself, I'll take it as an accomplishment, thank you.
I don't know about Japan. Like I said, if I find a good deal on a Credor, then yes. ANY credor, even an Eichi. But my plans changed ever since I bought the white birch.

The great cope says that if it is correctly aligned, then it is not a genuine Seiko.

Mine is misaligned by half a second and that drives me crazy.

Thee moonphase is my favourite extra complication, the way they did it here is fine, combining it with the date I mean. But the art itself is a bit ugly. The watch feels like a german watch too. It's fine but I wouldn't buy it. How much is it?

I’m someone else. I still want a watch from Japan. Either credor kuon or 16234 Rolex datejust. I read that datejust were going for 3500 a few years ago (before rolexmania?) and now they are 6000. Think I can find one in Japan for 3500 still?
