Sorry for posting again in such a short notice.

Which one of these two first? I will eventually be getting both:

1. I might not even use the chrono function, but I do appreciate how it looks. I wish Omega-san is here so he can answer some of these speedy questions.

2. 3ATM kinda sucks and having a deteriorating leather band kinda sucks. But I also love the Art Deco design language. I love a lot of things from that era.

A ton of cheap Casios/Seikos/Tissot that isn't worth mentioning, including one seiko chrono. I think I have it somewhere but I sincerely hated that fucking watch, it was a gift but it was annoying as fuck. The watch had a built in alarm that I couldn't figure out how to shut off. So it would just ring at fucking 5pm everyday. That being said I'll probably go look for it and try to put a battery in just to see if I can live with a chrono. Most of my Seiko besides like 3 autos are either broken or needs a battery.

Things I do wear often:

-Apple Watch for everyday

-Rolex Datejust 41 that I wear a lot but I switch it between the Apple Watch

-Omega Speedmaster Constellation vintage(unkown year) Piepan which I got from ebay but its not very accurate and the Omega boutique said they would need to charge me more than the priceo f hte watch since there are 'non-official parts.' I left it with a watch repair place that said they can fix it, they said it might take a few months.

Although I really love the explorer and think it's a nice watch, I think that it isn't as versatile as people say. It wouldn't make a excelent dress watch, for exemplo. On the other hand, the datejust or the op really goes with everything.

Definately. Even with the titanium ones there were people who didn't like them because they felt too light. Some people associate heftyness with quality, and lightness with cheapness. These are essentially plastic and they have already been described as toy-like. There is a small group of people who will put these on their wrist and be happy with the feel and I would be one of them. It would be cool if in the future the cost carbon fiber keeps going down and these become cheaper.

The Omega seems to have lost 20% of its retail value in like just a few months. The JLC seems to be holding steady at least or slightly above MSRP, do you think the JLC tend to go up in value or down over the years? I think this might be due to the affect of the Swatch group acquisition.

JLC tends to hold steady, but it's rather watch dependent.
For example, staple dial colors that go with everything and can be considered good dress watch choice might hold or rise in value much more than colors that are more out there.
Black and blue come to mind as staple dress watch colors. Greens and reds are much more "out there" in terms of eye-catching allure.

Thing is, most people wouldn't wear a green dial JLC with a black suit.
You technically need a green suit to pair it up with the watch.
If you don't really give a shit about what you technically "should" do with fashion and watch pairing, I would say it's a great watch. I personally would wear that JLC even in cargo shorts!

It's not the type of watch brand that looses a lot of value.

If you want to check used options, buying from the based Japanese might be a good call on the Omega if it already tanked in value some. I like Omega watches, if Omega-Anon appears today I hope he can shed some light on it.

When I bought it at the boutique I had on a dark grey suit. They only had a blue OP, black Sub date and DJ in Wimbeldon. I also was trying on a few other exhibition DJ(various styles/colors) and OP(various color). I asked to be put on a waitlist for the Green DJ and a few GMTs. I got the call about 4 months later, still waiting on the GMTs(lol who knows).

I think my personality(chink) tend to gravitate towards this emerald green. Chinese people tend to like green/jade color it brings good luck. The thing about the DJ is it kinda fits in between the 57' and Tribute.

Here's how I'd think of it:
1) Which one wears better on your wrist? If you haven't tried them on yet, do so, as wearing a rectangle is surprisingly different to circles in terms of measurements and what your eyes decide is good/bad. Whichever one sings to you first is the first one you should get if you plan to get both.
2) Chronographs are useful if you need chronographs; they're quicker than phone timers, and can be used 'under the cuff' as opposed to whipping out your phone. I use two daily at work, and it's always better if I use them without being obvious about it. If you have never used a timer for anything (even for cooking or things like that), then you'd be buying the Omega for aesthetic value only. Nothing wrong with that, but it will be a higher cost to service in the future than a simple dress watch, so it's something to consider. The chronograph on the 57, incidentally, is more difficult to read accurately at a glance due to the 60-min. counter; the hash marks are closer together. If you need a ballpark figure (i.e. the chrono has been on for around 10 minutes), it's easy because it looks like a miniature clock...but if you want precise minutes, you need great eyesight and/or glasses. To make matters worse, the broad arrow hands will obscure the chrono subdial quite easily, so just be aware of this.
3. The leather strap on the JLC is good quality, so it won't degrade fast if you're not subjecting it to water and intense sweat (i.e. the gym). They use deployants as well, so the wear and tear is minimized; it should last at least until the next service (10 years) with regular use. 3ATM is good enough for everyone, as long as the gaskets are checked before submerging, so don't worry about that.

Other Anons made good points regarding cost; the Omega should ONLY be bought grey-market, and Japan usually is a safe bet as long as you calculate in shipping and duty. Same for the JLC actually, but look for the best price.

Cont.

You also have to consider how much wear you'll get out of it. Sure, it'll be used at the wedding, but after that...would you daily either of them? Both can be worn easily daily, and both can be considered 'sport' watches.

Finally, the question of which one is better. The power reserve for the JLC will seem short for a manual-wind watch, though daily performance should be excellent. The Omega will have a longer power reserve and 'should' have a smaller range of performance in terms of accuracy over the day. The prices for Reversos have skyrocketed due to JLC upping the price since Covid, but Omega has just steadily increased, so it doesn't seem as bad. A Reverso really should only be around 4-5k...anything more is highway robbery. But if you love the look, then the price will be forgotten soon after you buy it.

The JLC, for what it is, is superior due to the timelessness of the design. The Omega is definitely stuck in the 2020s, and will remain so in the decades to come. The Omega is more functional (chronograph, date, etc.) and has a more advanced movement, and the JLC is reliable but unremarkable in terms of movement.

Finally: the open market tells you how 'valuable' the watch is. Given that the JLC devalues less than the Omega, this will give you a fair indication of the desirability of the piece. Does any of this help?

My dream is to get a few pieces of choice such as GE-2000, G-056 or GW-056.
At least one of the Slot Machine ones, a DW-8300, a JG-300 because it's weird as all hell, it's some kind of odd Japanese release that has some odd features and from what I gather has a [1456] module.
I also want to add A G-8000 [2958] and G-8100 [3078]. There is a vintage Casio that I'm also on the hunt for, the DW-3000 aka Tank. Made in 1985 and sports crisp 300WR. There are so many good designs from modern G as well. If they made a full digital GA-B001 I'd buy one instantly. They re-released the G-B001 which is a more modern version of G-001 made with modern materials and updated module, I'm only waiting for more color choices before I get one.

Hello Omega-san, it's good to see you as always.

Once again I am delighted by the amount of information and effort you put into this reply.

>1) Which one wears better on your wrist?

I've tried a Speedy Pro before, I loved anything space and NASA. This watch was always a grail to me, however after trying it at the store it felt good. A bit thick but not too thick like other watches, and proportional. My issue was seeing the exhibition model's Helsalite crystal already having swirl marks. For such at the time an expensive piece I didn't expect to see something like that. But at the same time, going with a sapphire crystal seems to be somewhat frowned upon in the Moonwatch community. The larger gasket on the sapphire is also a bit distracting on the case. Overall the watch did not wow me as much as other watches I've tried on. Plus time was short at the airport and I had to catch my transit.

In regard to the Reverso, it was during another transit this time it was me flying out of Guangzho when I met a middle eastern man wearing a Reverso. I pointed out his watch to im and we shared a few drinks at the Cathay Pacific lounge. Didn't think it was a Tribute but it was insanely thin, like Cartier Tank thin except you can play with the face. He let me try it on and I fell in love with how the watch looked. But then again unlike the Speedy this isn't an everyday watch, and doesn't look 'right' on all clothing. It looked good with his suit, I had on a simple Polo at the time and it didn't look good to me. I'll have to find a JLC Boutique and try one on with a suit.

2. Everything in my life has a timer on its own, the occasions that I need a timer for like during an exercise there's one automatically built into the watch I am wearing in this case an Apple Watch Ultra. My and my GF did go to F1 last week in Las Vegas which is a very shall I say, Melanin enriched area so I wore my Apple Watch. I did use my AW to time Verstappen's average speeds per lap.

Overall the race was fun, but it doesn't feel like the ones in Monaco, Italy or Singapore. People were rowdy, treated it more like NASCAR than F1 and all they did was sat there complain about how its boring or how the seats wasn't fully booked. I'm a big race and car(Porsche fan... soon but that's anotehr story in /o/) guy but I'm just embarrassed to be an American at this point.

TL;DR - I do use it but no wear enough for me to go out to buy one. I am interested in the 57' solely due to its heritage and looks.

3. I'm more worried about 10 years down the road when JLC decided they wanted to stop making the strap for a specific model. That being said I've seen people 'modify' the watch, putting their on take on the straps with some amazing results. Even though I do want to keep all of my watch completely stock, there are just some awesome strap option not only for the Reverso but for the 57' as well.

>You also have to consider how much wear you'll get out of it. Sure, it'll be used at the wedding, but after that...would you daily either of them? Both can be worn easily daily, and both can be considered 'sport' watches.

TBQH I don't see myself wearing both daily since I love wearing my Rolex daily, then switch it for workouts with an AWU. Still I might just give the AWU to someone since I honestly don't need a device telling me I need to burn 1k more calories today. But I do have a lot of formal events that I am expected to attend, and I don't want to wear my 'work watch' to one of those events.

Some people like it, some don't. Personally, I think it's pandering a bit much to the "vintage inspired aesthetic" crowd. Ignoring that Omega is a fundamentally dishonest brand for the last 40 years or so, have you tried it on the wrist?

Good to see you too. Hopefully it's all helpful. The Speedy pro will wear very different to the 57, so make sure you go into an Omega boutique and try on the actual watch. The Reverso also comes in different sizes, so again, make sure you try on the actual watch you plan on buying.

Finally the question does come down to which one is better. Like I said, I appreciate all watches. I appreciate all cars, all guns, all sets of clubs, all hobbies in general so I do not see one as better than the other.

1. the power reserve on the JLC is an inconvenience, but seeing that I probably won't be wearing this besides for as a weekender I'm not too worried. I also love winding old watches, I have an Omega myself. One I bought a long time ago on ebay of all placed. And I love winding it.

2. Omega ofcourse with its COSC/Metas certification will be more accurate and more modern with its Co-Axial escapement. But I also love the heritage of the Omega.

3. In regardless to the heritage of both, both is instantly recognizable. But the Reverso can sometimes be mistaken for a Cartier. And Omega Speedmaster is known by every red blooded American as the watch Neil Armstrong took to the moon. The watch that beat the Rolex Cosmograph to be certified by NASA for space flight. The watch the moment people laid eyes on that will automatically take them back to the time where the world came as one to push humanity forward into the next frontier for out species.

Sorry for getting a little emotional there, and I'm sure some of the /pol/ crossboarders will chime in saying its all fake. But this is why I loved the watch and why I wanted one so badly. I just felt the 'Pro' wasn't THE one for ME, the 57' is.

>Finally: the open market tells you how 'valuable' the watch is. Given that the JLC devalues less than the Omega, this will give you a fair indication of the desirability of the piece. Does any of this help?

In terms of depreciation/appreciation or if someone desire it more. I only care because I always love saving money, if I can get it cheaper I would. I don't care if they never appreciate and continue to depreciate. I never sold a watch before, I sold a few guns and golf clubs, ones where I told myself I'd never sell but I eventually did. But never watches for some reason.

Again thank you for the thoughtful reply Omega-san, I find everything you say not only helpful but entertaining. I really enjoy these exchanges that we have.

I mean, it is.
It's been over 50 years now, that Omega has been the official "can't afford a Rolex" brand.
Even Tudor struggles in that regard, since guys who can't afford a Rolex know to avoid Tudor but Omega gives them coverage. They can buy a Speedie and screech "moon! Moon!" over and over again.

They can't even, in good faith of course, call it a superior chronograph because otherwise they'd have El Primeros, JLC 751's, and post-EP Daytonas. Those all make the Speedmaster look silly.

Nope, just plug one's ears and scream "Moon!" until everyone else gets bored and leaves.

Sorry my responses are sporadic; doing 3-things at once...lol

It sounds more and more like the Omega is the one you want; in your posts, there is a definite slant towards it. Therefore, I'd recommend getting to an Omega boutique post-haste and trying one on, even if it's not the same colour. They should have at least one. Make sure to try it on multiple times in different emotional states (i.e. when you're tired, when you're hungry, when you're happy, when you're sad, etc.); you'd be surprised how much emotions can cloud judgement of a luxury item. Then, when you're sure-sure that you want it, search online for the best possible price. Box and Papers only matter if you want to resell or if you are unsure of the seller (though a box and papers are easier to forge than the watch itself). The last thing to remember about the co-axial is that only Omega or Omega-trained independent watchmakers can service the co-axial, so unlike the JLC, you'll likely be sending it to Omega to take care of it. It's a limiting factor which I'd take into consideration seriously, as it affects cost and convenience of owning it.

I do understand your emotions regarding the Omega though; when I first tried on an 1861 all those decades ago, it sang immediately. Same with the other watches I own (aside from the 2254.50...that was an acquired taste). I understand too the similarity between the Cartier and the JLC, though I definitely see that as something of a plus.

>>17907075
Agreed about wanting to save money, and you should be able to get it for less than from an AD. Just be patient, and look at every detail in the pictures. Check the bracelet sizing too (i.e. if your wrist fits comfortably 19mm but the bracelet is listed as '16mm', then you'll need extra links), and do as much due diligence as you can. If you don't know if you'll keep it, make sure to get full box and papers; it'll make it easier to re sell in the future.

Good luck!

It's all brand recognition and they, obviously, abuse the fuck out of it, as they should. At least with brands at a comparable price point, I can see why the watch would cost that much. Rolex is an overpriced jewelry and flex status symbol used by shitty artists, rapers, dogshit actors and social media influencers.
It was once a tool watch brand that was attainable by normal people, now it's just an accessory for flexing in a youtube video. The only good-looking Rolex is the Milgauss, but they went discontinued it for fuckall reason. No refresh, no new materials, literally nothing.

I like both Omega, Tudor and many other brands that can be seen as cope for ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX, but those brands don't make a Milgauss cope, so I can only get the watches I actually like.

If you want to buy a Tudor buy a fucking Tudor, but if you want to buy it as a cope for [insert Rolex here] you are going to hate the watch more than Rolex shillers in /wt/. Not everyone wants to buy corpo greed Rolexes anymore.

Yeah I appreciate the fact that the richest watch brand builds it all in house, but some tudor watches got unique in house movements too. That's not a reason for an oyster perpetual to cost as much as a GO panomatic lunar for example or a... GS white birch. The later two are significantly harder to produce and take much more time. And they are obviously a lot more unique.
About Omega, I think by now they are even worse, by far even. They are the only big and or iconic brand that won't allow anyone inside their "manufacturing" establishments so that nobody finds out it's all chinese parts. Glashütte Original is also on the swatch team, but they are extremely transparent about everything.

Yeah; I was at mine a few days ago, and they had 3 Kermits, full-stock president day-dates, no-date and date submariners in SS, full-stock OPs (except for the celebration dial, of course), and others. The only thing they didn't have (of course) were SS Daytonas, though I think they might have had one in the back. Next time I'll go in and try on an Explorer finally; so many people love that watch, but it doesn't speak to me in pics. Maybe on the wrist it'll be better. Never know until I try. The Rolex market is definitely correcting.

No; as I've stated before, a thread was started about people using flags in their avatars to show 'support' for various political leanings. The responses showed just how out of touch the people there are, and I thought that it all makes sense and that I don't have anything to contribute to the community. When something comes up, I'll likely post...but for now, there's nothing new for me to add over there.

if it's got plastic lugs like a Casio F-91W it's possible, but they aren't very expensive anyways. If it's metal lugs they could always weld the holes and then grind it down and bore a new hole, but that is unlikely to happen. Some watch restorers use that technique to fill in very deep scratches and remove case back engravings, so I think it would be possible to repair lugs the same way.

I've had one and I don't know what these reviewers were smoking. Just putting it beside an Orient Ray (yes I'm poor) which is 42, the Tsuyosa still looked gigantic because of the much bigger dial.
Its wrist presence is also enormous and because of the relatively big and thick case combined with its super flexible light/cheap bracelet it also flail around on your wrist much more than any normal watch.

The only reason I can think of why people say it wears "smaller" is the comparison with the PRX because it's lug-to-lug is actually reasonable compared to the PRX.
