I really love him. He‘s such a good guy.

I was surprised when he brought home a bottle of BdC EdT one day, he actually likes the stuff quite a lot. Finished one bottle already and is halfway through the second, he really goes through it quickly. I offered him to use whatever he likes from my stuff, but he prefers to just use this. Don’t care for Fathom V personally, too floral (and linear at that) and frankly the name irks me, but I love BeauFort London as a house.

I have a shop near me that specializes exclusively in niche perfumery, including BFL. Tbh I’ve kind of been pestering the woman that runs the place about when the shipment will come in. She said that 1) they didn’t give any heads up in between saying they were working on a new frag and the actual release and 2) now that she has actually placed the order, apparently BFL only ships to the US through one company, and when she checked on her order the shipping company knew nothing about.

Haven’t picked up any full bottles in a while, but I just recently got into frags and basically did it backwards where I started with niche and am now expanding into designer.
Spent the past couple weekends just picking up samples at various department stores.
>BdC EdP and Parfum, all 4 Sauvage concentrations, Fahrenheit, Snicebomb, misc. Versace, Azzaros Most Wanted line
Honestly really looking forward to the next couple weeks of just trying random designer stuff.

There have been on-and-off discussions about it's status for at least a decade. It's no longer listed on the Davidoff website, and people on forums have had conflicting answers from customer service about it. The most recent one I've seen had some weasel worded reassurance that 'this product is still available on the market'. Which isn't quite the same as saying it's still being *made*.

Either way, there seems to still be plenty of it around on notino / sephora, etc.

Some of the Jeanne En Provence line are good (notably acqua and neroli intense)

For that kind of money you can pick up giorgio for men, a very pleasing 80s patchouli thing, you could get bijan for men which is very aromatic and herbal, you could get quorum a strong piney aromatic scent, Dakar an Arab clone oil of drakkar noir which is a shaving foam creamy fougere (you will recognise the smell). For just a bit more you could probably find Yatagan, easily one of the greatest men's perfumes ever committed to the bottle. The same perfumer made only one other perfume: Halston Z-14 which is a good skeletal woody cinnamon thing albiet not very long lasting or strong, which should also be in budget.

As previously mentioned Cabochard EDP is a good pick too, it's a female perfume but men can wear it.

Kids like unique smells. When they smell "vanilla" or light fragrances (I own a respectable colection of those too, from BdC to some Diptyques) they say nothing, but with Yatagan or Zino they open their eyes big and say THAT SMELLS NICE. I remember the moment that my 3 year old girl smelled Polo Green. She looked at me and laughed in a pure wow reaction. Kids are based.
My wife kind of hate me lately, so she doesn't compliment me at all. Anyway, her taste is not that good: she likes Tobacco Vanilla, Fahrenheit and Encre Noire Sport and wears picrel.

That sounds good actually. I always love the classic smell like Cussons Imperial Leather bar soap and Old Spice Cologne.
I don't live in Germany but my country surprisingly still sell a lot of classic old products from various countries like Tabac, Brut, Shiseido, Bravas, Drakkar, etc etc.
Since I bought Old Spice cologne, I got curious to check old classic brands. I probably going to get Tabac or Brut.
some people said that Tabac aftershave is as potent as their spray cologne. Maybe I will try the soap bar as well. That thing is the only soap that's packaged in hard plastic, it felt premium af.

Yatagan, it smells simultaneously like a burning salad, a handful of of forest floor dirt replete with old pine needles and animal stinkies, and what I imagine a very interesting old anthropology professor would smell like.

The problem is that most modern perfumes are "abstract" in the sense that they have notes deriving from their ingredients (sometimes multiple ingredients combined to simulate another material that is hard to find or illegal to use now in perfumery) and so just smell "like themselves". If I asked you what coca cola tasted like you could list me some ingredients and that it was sweet but ultimate it just tastes like coca cola, that's a similarly abstract flavour. (It isn't a coincidence that the first abstract perfumes emerged around the time people started using chemistry to make novel soft drink flavours).

Your best bet is reading the Turin guide to get a basic idea of how people talk about perfume, what the different types are. Then going to a department store and smelling things, compared to the reviews in the guide. That'll help you develop a nose, start to be able to pick notes out, determine if a perfume is a chypre or fougere, that kind of thing.

Van Gils is a Dutch boomer clothing brand with a (imo) very decent edt line. I used to have all of them because I'm a Dutch autist, but I haven't bought their newest ones yet. The archetypal VG scent is VG Original (rebranded as Strictly For Men at some point). A classy, musky 80s/90s edt in what I consider an iconic bottle design. VG Live is basically SFM but more extreme, like what you would wear to a nightclub. Between sheets is totally different, a clean, fresh and more modern edt. Basic Instinct and Elite also follow this path. Their newer I Dare line is fine but a little tame with little variation between the various editions (although their unisex one is interesting). And then there's one of their older edts, Tendenza. It's a milder evening edt than Live and for some reason this is a favourite with mid-thirties women even though the edt is almost older than they are

First a 2ml decant. Then a travel spray, if they have it / 10ml decant. Then a full bottle, on the smaller side.
You just have to learn through experience though. I made the mistake of starting off buying full bottles of things that I did truly enjoy, but should have only got them in a ~10 ml decant. Live, learn, enjoy life and the beautiful smells it has to offer.

>Preemptive warning, noselet take here

Depends on what you like, but I think Bianchi’s DNA is so similar you try a couple things and realize most smell too similar. Good mind you, but too similar to own more than one. For me those were Black Knight, Sticky Fingers, and Etruscan Water. Picked up the Etruscan Water, and would recommend.

I used to think the same of BeauFort London until I sampled more of their line. I can give you my notes on each of theirs (mind you the noselet comment again, so ymmv) but the cliff notes version is
>TM and RR are both peppery scents, with RR being a little more earthy.
>Tonnerre is HEAVY tar and smoke, with a faintly aquatic opening. Imagine floating in the middle of the ocean and getting hit in the face with the hull of a burning ship. You were briefly aware you were in the water but now your nose is pressed against tarred timbers soaked in creosote. I like it but in a weird way. Worth buying but only 10ml or less.
>Lignum Vitae is a weird sweet gourmand.
>Acrasia smells like bubblegum, however upon re-reading some of the OP’s FAQ info, supposedly we associate… Iris? with bubblegum smell. I don’t remember. Anyway, yeah, bubblegum that dries down into a faintly metallic smell.
>Iron Duke I highly recommend. Similar to Acrasia to my nose in the sense that it starts out sweet (but much less so) evolves into a faintly soapy, leaning leathery scent, and dries down to the same metallic notes as Acrasia, but stronger/better.
Really do love Iron Duke.
>Coeur de Noir, haven’t sampled, ID had enough leather for me didn’t feel the need.
>Fathom V, shove your nose into a (generic) flower and take a deep whiff. Noselet can’t differentiate, to me I associated it with a rose bush, but been told it’s white.
