Speaking from personal experience, it's a watch you'll get bored with really quickly.
(There's a reason so many of them are available for sale on C24.)

It would be great for a person's only watch, but if you have a couple watches already, you'll end up never wearing the Santos. It's too dainty to be a sports watch, it's too chunky to be a dress watch. (The bezel also scratches extremely easily)

This might not apply to you, but the bracelet also has zero microadjust and doesn't come with half-links either. If you can't get a good fit, you have no options other than wearing it on a strap.

>> No.17896457

No but some Reverso prices have increased by about 40% over the past two years. Now about 20% of that is due to inflation, the rest is corporate greed. It's typical for watch manufacturers to do annual price increases due to inflation but normally you're looking at a few percent with some outliers if a model turns out to be more popular than expected.

The compressor case was made by a company called Ervin Piquerez. They made watch cases for other companies which was normal before the industry decided that "everything in house" was more effective.
When JLC wanted to make a dive watch, they used those compressor cases instead of designing a case for themselves.

Guys I know you hate that I keep asking you about this but I want everything ready for when I get to Japan. Is there anyway to know that these vintage watches are serviced? Do they have a timagrapher there ready to go so I would at least know the watch isn't going to run slow/fast? Also if these watches are serviced did they used official Rolex parts? Or is all of this just a crapshoot to save a few hundred to maybe a thousand dollars?

Like here in the US we have OCwatchguy, Takuya, etc. In Japan its mostly a crapshoot or are do they service with OEM parts as well? Also guys it would be cool to have some sort of meet up over there, like in a nice rooftop bar. It would be awesome, come on guys lets do this.

Here's what you do. Have a friend in Japan who goes shopping with you. Because if you 1. don't speak Japanese and 2. aren't Japanese, they will sell you the junk that they won't sell to other Japanese.

Buying online from Japan via Chrono24 or eBay is actually safer than buying in person because a foreigner can spoil their reputation and/or get them kicked off the platform, while a foreigner buying in person will be thousands of miles away before they realize they've been bilked and won't be smart enough to be able to read the receipt to even make a complaint.

Do they use genuine parts when servicing? When they have to, when there's no other choice. But for hands, crowns, bracelet links, crystals, etc. they just use Chinese reproductions. They're just as good.

I don't want to put you off the buying experience, because it can be fun, but don't go over there expecting to trick some rube Japanese into selling you a Rolex for less than it's worth.

Visit the country. It's beautiful. The people are friendlier than you'd imagine, even in cities. More polite than friendly in the cities. Downright friendly in the countryside.
The food is great. The service is always excellent and the waitstaff will pay extra attention to you because they know you don't know how to behave in a Japanese restaurant.
Things are only expensive in the cities, it's dirt cheap in the countryside, like anywhere else.

However, what you DON'T do is business with them. That's a competitive sport over there. The goal is to fuck the other guy while getting fucked and not breaking a pleasant, serious but serene manner.

Actually, fuck the cities. See them once to say you've seen them, then get out into the countryside. It is, no lie, one of the most beautiful countries on earth, regardless of season.

That's why the GSs you buy should only be the ones with the special dials. The ones where they actually give a fuck, not the ones where they cut corners.

Think about Patek Philippe, who are known to have four levels of finishing. Your basic, entry-level Calatrava will not have near the amount of attention lavished upon it as a minute repeater, which is why people always say to skip the entry-level Pateks.
ALS, on the other hand, finishes a shitty little 34mm Saxonia to the exact same idiotically high standard as their top-end Datograph. As a result, the consensus is that the entry level ALS's are actually a little undervalued.

A. I don't like sports, I don't know any of the sports team and I find sports rivalries stupid.

B. Last time I go to the bar people are too interested in sex or going home with someone. I don't like it when women or men come up and talk to me hoping I'd go home with them, I hate that.

This made me end up with a bad experience with bars. But I think I really do need to start going out, however I think I need to find other people with the same interests(watches, travel, petroleum engineering, etc.). I normally hate the idea of meets, but I think I might try going to one since people there at least share my interests.

Sure it does.
It depends very much on whether you've got the gift of gab.

It very much depends on the bar, though. If you're at the platinum lounge at an airport and it's just a bunch of lonely guys from all over the planet watching football highlights from some unknown league, you'll start chitchatting and it's very likely you'll find some watch collectors.

If you're at a local sports bar in a blue collar American city, it helps to be conversant about NFL football, but no one will care about watches.

Me neither, but I learned pretty early in my career that talking about sports is a social requirement and if you're not social, you're not going to advance. No one cares if you're good at your job, that's a bonus.

So I learned about football and can, in broad strokes, complain about the New England Patriots and keep up with the conversations. It's the same reason I learned to play golf. The boss doesn't care if you're good (actually, it helps if he wins) but he'll know your name.

I know this sounds autistic as fuck, but I feel like an alien intel operative doing a really good job. I've got a good job, friends, a fiancee. People think I'm the life of the party and only my fiancee has any suspicions.

I've been to reddit its not really like that, for political/geopolitical news its okay to just quickly read the headline and get whatever I need. Second its not very organized when it comes to dispersing information.

But I digress, if there's a website where I can just spend a few seconds a day reading up on the last big game something like...

That simply doesn't exist. People move around too much these days...depending on your profession. I've been in my current condo six years and that's the longest I've ever lived anywhere in one place in my life.

When I was in the military it was even worse. Every year you're somewhere else with completely new people. Your options are to have a long-distance relationship via Facebook or, if you don't use Facebook (I don't) then it's "Well, it's been a pleasure knowing you. Lots of luck." give a firm, genuine handshake and immediately put that person out of your mind forever.

You either end up either completely alone or with a bunch of buddies. You know, pseudo-friends whom you'll gladly hang out with but don't trust at all.

For sports and talks, unironically follow facebook boomers and use other boomerish platforms. Watch the sports recap after news. Generally always watch the news. When they talk about the game claim you were watching it but not with your full focus.
Also go drinking/out as often with your coworkers as possible. Let them get drunk and spill their beans on various subjects, always remember what they told in case you need to / can use that against them in the future. Obviously never spill your own beans but occasionally make "silly" mistakes to appear human.
Don't gossip around ever, you need to gauge who to trust in the work environment and who not to. Remember the names and the deeds and backstab them later to advance yourself.
Don't expect a reservation at Dorsia immediately, things will yield fruit over time. Also don't underestimate the normies ever, other Batemans will be among them. Also don't fuck around with HR ever.

This I know isn't normal but I am numb to anything that isn't my only specific interests, so what am I to do?

>>17897003
The lies I've been saying is more like, "ohh we went out, and we did, but it never worked out." But I went in knowing it wouldn't work out, I just did it to satisfy my co-workers or to not look strange. A lot of times there's also an age/maturity difference because some of the older men/ladies at work tend to want me to hook up with their niece/daughter. Who sometimes is 10+ years younger or my age but has the mentality of a child. I did it once and I wanted to reach across the table to slap the shit out of her. I can't risk that again.

I was in the same boat as you. I suspect I'm a little older than you (I'm 37 now..."I know, get off 4chan, Boomer")
As you go on, you realize material objects are bullshit too.
A perfect example is cars. My dream car was a Ferrari 512TR. I bought one. A good example and I put the work in to get it to 100. Like, we're talking concourse-award winning. (I didn't mind. I enjoyed process.) But while I'm driving around in this roaring, howling thing and everyone's staring at me and I have to have a conversation every time I go to the gas station.
...and I like my Camry better. The only thing the Ferrari did is act as a social lubricant. Driving it wasn't any fucking fun. Driving at all isn't that fun.

So...like, fuck it. It's all bullshit.

NTA, but it's usually those anons who are on the cusp of "adulthood" that are most offended.

Funny how it works, I was 15 when I lost mine. Was in relationships most of the time till I turned 18, had a dry spell of almost 4 years and it felt like I regained it at that time.

I'm going to ask one simple question: Do watches from manufacturer Web sites, authorized dealers, and the like have sales for Black Friday?

Thank you for your attention and responses.

most watchmakers will be able to clean out radium and replace it with modern lume for a price
