skip edb and jazz club (good tobacco frags are really pricy, cheap ones rely too much on either overcloying sweetness or have no lasting power)
tv is good, other good choices are amouage royal tobacco, montabaco rio by ormonde, and fumerie turque

mugler alien man but its a bit too generic, dark woodsy pepper

EDB is recommended all the time here which is why I mentioned it and everyone seems to cream themselves over jazz club for some reason, but I'll keep your advice in mind. Polo Supreme Oud was my first "oud" fagrance. After smelling the real shit, I can tell 9/10 they don't use real oud in fragrances like picrel or M7.

I got Not a Perfume, Superdose last week, and I’m a big fan. Didn’t have any strong feelings about the regular Not a Perfume—skin musk scents usually aren’t musky enough for me, and it was one of those cases.
I’d say it’s like a wet forest type of smell with strong balsam and amber notes; in some ways it is similar to Neandertal Dark, but has far fewer layers of complexity. It’s effective as a simple but dark/heavy fragrance, with very good longevity and sillage.

Question regarding the OP material.

What does “W2C” stand for in “W2C bottles“?

And second, how do the various discounter websites listed in the OP work? And I mean that in the sense of, how are they selling their materials so much cheaper than any given brick and mortar store, or from the company directly?

-Someone- has to be losing money, don’t they?

Where to cop (lame zoomer speak)
Discounters are buying perfume from other countries where it is sold for less and selling it to you for slightly more, which is still less than what you would pay at a big box store. It's called the grey market. I believe Ash goes over it at some point here.

The only ones I know to make this claim are some local independent aromatherapy burner oil and soap makers that sometimes produce perfumes, and Henry Jacques, who sells mid frags for the price of a kidney

Still useful to know, can shop appropriately during the BF deals this coming week.

Unrelated question: With brands like Hermes or l'Occitane, would you consider them niche, designer, or somewhere in between?
I have all I’ll need from Hermes, but I’ve been meaning to pick up a bottle or sample of Eau des Baux, and thus far I don’t think I’ve seen the brand as a whole on any niche or broad discounters (albeit, this was a very, very cursory search).

Neither of those are really niche in the traditional sense. Hermes is designer for sure, L'occitane is more like lush or body shop since they also make soaps cosmetics etc. Considering eau de baux is about 60 euros from the retailer it's not the sort of thing where there would be much of a discount market for it.

L'occitane is a cosmetics / beauty store that also makes perfumes. Hermes is very much a designer house, just an independent one that tries to differentiate itself from the others and be more elitist. that's why their fragrances follow a clear house style instead of the more trend-focused approach of most designers nowadays

I personally think the whole niche vs designer distinction is silly and overvalues "niche" brands that make very mainstream perfumes for a mass audience, while undervaluing some designer houses
