The attached picture kind of speaks for itself...not MY leg, but his leg looks similar to mine, and my shorts ride up my thigh EXACTLY as shown in the picture.
The trend in my area has been for men's shorts to gradually get shorter and shorter. So I bought some shorts that ended about 2 to 4 inches above from the top of my kneecaps. They showed my knees yes, and also a bit of lower thigh, but didn't look too revealing when standing.
But when SITTING though...oh boy...I literally felt completely naked. They rode up like 1/2 up my thigh, and sometimes even 3/4 up my thigh. If they rode up and inch or two more, my boxer-briefs would even be exposed!
Is this sort of thing fine? Am I overreacting? Or is it absolutely not fine, and I should just buy some longer shorts?
In terms of personal comfort, I don't mind showing a lot of skin, and I could get used to it, but I'm mainly concerned about how socially acceptable this is.

Well my shorts when they ride up when I sit (as shown in the photo) are pretty damn close to women's shorts in terms of length, lol. When standing they quite clearly look like a good 7 to 9 inch inseam, 7 being 4 inches above my knee, and 9 being 2 inches above my knee. But when sitting...bro those look like 3 or 4 inch inseams, lol.
Actually, I even compared, when sitting my shorts were THE SAME length as the shorts of some of the women around me...
Difference is my shorts are that length only when sitting, and not when standing.
In general I do agree with you, though I don't think I'd want my own shorts to be any shorter...if 7 or 9 inch inseams become 3 or 4 inch inseams when I sit, I don't wanna risk even shorter shorts...lol. I'd basically be wearing a straight up speedo if I went any shorter.
