You won't look like a pretentious faggot, but combat boots definitely give off a certain vibe so ask yourself if that's a vibe you want to put out there. It sounds like it isn't. I own a pair and I really like them, the build quality is remarkable for the price and they look far better than most surplus combats, but I don't wear them when I want to blend in.

Where I live our equivalent would be chelsea boots, specifically Blundstones. Everywhere you go will have some kind of normie uniform, wearing "Normie Uniform Plus" is what I aspire to, but I would say paramemes are definitely not in that category, even here. Also for reference, nobody in real life knows what the fuck these are, they're just going to see army boots. How you dress them will entirely determine what people see, they aren't enough on their own to make an entire outfit give off hot topic or shooter vibes. I would say with a winter jacket on they'll look pretty normal.
